Do Min Joon in You Who Came From The Stars (2014)
When this Korean drama aired early this year, it became a global phenomenon almost instantly, owning its success to the show’s unique plot and lead actor, the alien professor who is already over 400 years old but still looks like he just turned 18. Played by Kim Soo Hyun, Do Min Joon’s special powers – amazing hearing ability, Herculean strength and his gift to freeze time and teleport – just to name a few, instantly won over hearts of many females. His hot-and-cold relationship with Cheon Song-yi (Jun Ji-hyun) and how he never fails to save her from the gates of hell certainly spell trouble for the menfolk whose girlfriends yearn for their other halves to possess half of his special abilities. Realistically speaking, there’s only one thing you can learn from what Professor Do and it’s his caring and sensitive ways which are what girls look for in a potential boyfriend.

Night in Absolute Boyfriend (2008)
Continuing the make-believe trend, instead of an alien, this time it’s a robot. Japanese drama Absolute Boyfriend features Night Tenjo (played by Mokomichi Hayami), a robot programmed to be the ideal boyfriend for the female lead, Riiko Izawa. Handsome, strong and intelligent, Night lives up to his promise of loving and protecting his owner. As predicted, he develops human-like feelings for her but unfortunately does not get to be with her as he starts to malfunction with his growing emotions for his owner. Night finally backs out for Riiko to be with Soshi, a man who loves her too. A boyfriend who is thoughtful and gives himself up selflessly for the one he loves and her happiness, like Night, is probably the highest level of love one can give. Sometimes it helps to put yourself in the shoes of others and put her needs before yours.

Kim Tan in The Heirs (2013)
Aliens and robots aside, we welcome the chaebol (heir of a business conglomerate) Kim Tan in The Heirs. Played by Lee Min Ho, who was recently in town in September for an OSIM event, Tan is wealthy, young, handsome, and sweet. He’s the perfect boyfriend anyone could ever ask for. Although he is just a high school student, Tan gets extra brownie points for being courageous and doing his all to be with the girl of his dreams, Cha Eun Sang (played by Park Shin Hye), against his parents’ objections, love rival Choi Young Do and the annoying rich heiress whom he was formerly engaged to. Cliché but really, love transcends all boundaries including age, so guys, be bold like Tan!

Choi Young Do in The Heirs (2013)
For females who cannot deal with a whole lot of sweetness and want some balance, you’ll probably be in Team Choi Young Do (played by Kim Woo Bin) in the same drama. Showing his love to Eun Sang in a different manner, he is the classic case of baddie on the outside but a vulnerable softie inside, who is lousy at expressing his feelings. But what we loved was how he was always on standby for her no matter how much she detests him. You can start with being there for her 24/7 regardless of whether she likes you or not.

Li Da Ren in In Time With You (2011)
In the popular Taiwanese drama In Time With You starring Chen Bo Lin and Ariel Lin, who got engaged last week, the two play best friends who know each other inside out and have no qualms about showing their worst sides to each other. Li Da Ren (played by Bo Lin), who shot to fame as the perfect boyfriend in the hearts of females when the drama aired, cared for Cheng You Qing (Ariel) unconditionally, not flaring up when she stood him up (not just once) and even removing her make-up at the end of a tiring day. Heads up guys if you have a BFF of the opposite gender and both of you are still single, you need not look high and low for “The One” as she may right beside you! Start picking up some make-up removal tips perhaps?
