Beloved stage musical, Les Misérables, will open at Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre in May 2016. Tickets go on sale from Monday 2nd November at Sistic.

Next year will mark 20 years since Les Misérables was last shown in Singapore.  Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Boublil & Schönberg's legendary show has enjoyed huge success in Melbourne, Perth, and in Sydney, and he can’t wait to bring it to our sunny shores.

“Having created my new production over five years ago to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of ‘Les Misérables’, it is now in its second year on Broadway, and broken box office records across America and in Canada for over three years, with separate companies in Japan, Korea, Spain and of course Australia, where it is sweeping all the top awards.  I am delighted to bring this hugely successful new production to Singapore with this incredible cast,” he said.

Shaun Seow, Chief Executive Officer of MediaCorp, said, “MediaCorp, through our live entertainment company VizPro, is delighted to be presenting Cameron Mackintosh’s much loved musical in Singapore.  We have a growing audience for world-class theatre who will no doubt be thrilled by this new version of Les Misérables, one of the most enduring and galvanising pieces of theatre in the world.”

This new version stars Simon Gleeson, in the part of Jean Valjean, following his recent Australian Helpmann Award for the role. Valjean’s adversary, Javert, will be played by Earl Carpenter, who played the same role in the Broadway company of Les Miserables. Patrice Tipoki will play Fantine and Kerrie Anne Greenland will play Eponine.

Set in 19th-century France and based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel, Les Misérables follows former prisoner Jean Valjean as he attempts to rectify his past against the backdrop of a political revolution. The blockbuster musical, which has won over 125 major awards, has been seen by over 70 million people worldwide in 42 countries and 22 languages. The score includes classic songs like “I Dreamed a Dream”, “On My Own”, “Do Your Hear the People Sing?”, “Master of the House”, and many more.

Fans of the legendary musical can look forward to a modernised stage and beautifully imagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo.

The production is promoted by MediaCorp VizPro International.
