For local fans of Akdong Musician (also known as AKMU), it’s been a long time coming. The sibling duo will be making their way to Singapore for the first time this month for their solo concert AKMU STUDIO in Singapore.

AKMU made their official debut in 2012 after winning reality talent programme K-Pop Star 2, and is made up of Lee Chanhyuk and Suhyun. With Chanhyuk writing a number of the pair’s hits, including ‘Give Love’ and ‘200%’, which were shared with the world with Suhyun’s unique voice, Akdong Musician has established themselves as a talented singer-songwriter duo.

Ahead of their gig in Singapore, the pair took the time to answer seven of our questions, including who they think has changed more since their debut, their plans for next year and more.

Toggle: How do you feel about holding your first solo event in Singapore, and what are you most looking forward to doing here?
AKMU: It is exciting to see fans in Singapore. It is our first visit and first show so we really would like to do it well. We are looking forward to it very much and we prepared a lot so we hope everyone comes and has a great time.

Akdong Musician often releases unique music videos. Which of your videos is your favourite and why?
AKMU: Every music video is our favourite. All our music videos express us well but ‘How People Move’ in particular expressed our fun and loving characters very well.

Suhyun, which one of your songs do you relate to the most and what’s your favourite line of lyrics from that song?
Suhyun: I love all our songs but for today, I would choose ‘Green Window’ from our Puberty Part.1 album. While I was singing with a very hopeful message, Chanhyuk started to rap ‘You Are Lying’. It expresses where we stand between hope and realism well. This song ends with finding hope. It is somehow bitter but at the same time a very fresh song, so I try to sing very passionately.

If you could write a song about each other, what would the song’s title be and why?
Suhyun: ‘My Royalty’.
Chanhyuk: ‘Nothing On’.. no.. ‘Nothing Is You’.

Between the two of you, who do you think has changed the most since your official debut, and what’s the biggest difference that you have observed in each other?
Suhyun: Well, we don’t know how we’ve changed but people say that we are just the same. Chanhyuk has always been a sentimental person but he became more sentimental, while I am a somewhat logical person who became more logical. I think we became more like ourselves.

Now that the year is ending, could you share with us some of the New Year resolutions that you have accomplished? Do you have any goals that you have yet to achieve for the year?
AKMU: We achieved our year's plan by releasing our Puberty Part.1 album. We also passed our high school qualification examinations. We feel proud because we think we achieved more than we did last year.

What are your resolutions and plans for 2017?
AKMU: The first thing we want to do is to release a Puberty Part.2 album. We would also like to meet a lot of fans and be healthy and happy.

AKMU Studio is slated to take place on Dec 9, 7.30pm at the Kallang Theatre. Tickets priced at S$188, S$148 and S$108 (excluding booking fees) are now available on SISTIC.
