FTISLAND: Singapore Primadonnas are fun, passionate, perfect

Korean boyband FTISLAND popped by our little red dot in February, when they were a few months shy from celebrating their 10th anniversary. Having debuted on June 7, 2007, the quintet has spent a good decade of their lives together, bringing their own special brand of music to their fans: Primadonnas.

As part of their anniversary celebrations, they’ve released a new version of their debut song, ‘Love Sick’, and have also planned an array of activities leading up to the big day. On June 7, they will release a commemorative album, titled OVER 10 YEARS.

Apart from busying themselves with preparing for the festivities to come, the band also took the time to speak to Toggle about how far they’ve come in the last 10 years, where they see themselves in the next 10 years, and what their fans mean to them.

Read on to find out more.

Toggle: Congratulations on your 10th anniversary! How do you feel about celebrating a decade together?

FTISLAND: We’re so glad to have been able to create the music that we love for the last 10 years without any problems. We’re so happy.

When you look back on the last 10 years, who has been the most supportive towards FTISLAND?

There are so many people who come to mind, but if we had to pick, we’d want to say a big thank you to all the FNC staff (is this their record company?) who have been working hard to make our albums, our friends who are always supportive, our parents who are always there for us and above all, we are very thankful to our fans, Primadonna, who have been the biggest supporter for us to be able to make music for 10 long years.

Looking back on how much you've grown throughout the years, when do you feel like you've improved the most?

It’s when we are playing music on stage. Even though it doesn’t last for a long time, we’re always so thrilled with our performances when we’re able to execute it exactly as we’ve planned.

FTISLAND’s music has evolved throughout the years. What kind of music do you think you’ll be making 10 years from now?

We’ll probably still be doing music that we want to do, and we think that’s just the way we are. The only way to impress our fans is to be completely honest with our music, isn’t it? It doesn’t need to be special; we just want to be a band that is honest and express emotions freely as time goes by.

All of FTISLAND’s members have tried their hand at other aspects of entertainment. Apart from music, which field are the members most interested in?

All of us are interested in various things including acting and variety. Hong Gi currently hosting a radio show, Jong Hoon has been making appearances on variety shows and Jae Jin is working hard at acting. It’s a bit sad that we aren’t able to juggle all the activities that we want to do on top of our music.

You had a concert in Singapore a few months ago. How would you describe your Singaporean Primadonnas in 3 words?

Fun, passionate and perfect.

Actually, we think the most important thing when we are on stage is feeling the connection with our fans. Primadonnas in Singapore definitely knew how to enjoy the concert and showed such huge passion for us, so we got even more excited on stage. We think a concert becomes perfect when we share our feelings with each other like that.

Do you have any plans to visit Singapore again?

Singapore is a really nice place and we always have a great time whenever we go there. The fans, food and tourist attractions… Everything’s perfect. It would be an honour for us to go to Singapore again if we are invited, so of course we would love to visit again.

Lastly, do you have any words for your fans who are reading this interview on Toggle?

Thank you for celebrating our 10th anniversary with us. We’ll do our best and continue to work hard to improve ourselves. Please keep showing your support for all the 5 members of FTISLAND.
