Show Me the Money will be back for a fourth season amidst allegations that the rap competition series has become a platform for idols to get more exposure instead of discovering new talent.

The first season saw its contestants mostly made up of non-mainstream and underground rappers, whereas the second saw the entry of idols such as EXID’s LE. The third season saw bigger names, such as upcoming YG boy group iKON’s Bobby and B.I included in the contestants. Bobby ultimately emerged as the champion of Season 3.

As Season 4 revs up for its premiere, the judges were confirmed to include veteran hip-hop duo Jinusean, Jay Park, Block B’s Zico, Tablo, Verbal Jint and San E. The first contestant to be revealed was WINNER’s Mino, former SPEED member Taewoon and underground rappers Rex.D & Candle. Another rumoured addition to the cast list is MONSTA X’s Jooheon.

Netizens have pointed out that the influx of established names in the music industry could possibly hinder the discovery of new talent, of which the latter was part of the initial premise of the show.

Show Me the Money Season 4 is slated for a June premiere.
