It’s time to bid goodbye to EXO’s Tao and say hello to solo artiste Z.TAO.

Following the ambiguous Weibo update by his personal studio last week, it has been confirmed through a posting today (July 13) that the idol will be making his solo debut with a mini album on July 23.

While there have been no further details released, the post asked for fans to anticipate his formal return to the entertainment industry and has garnered over 33,000 reposts and 13,000 comments. While some fans are supportive of this new chapter in his life, there were others who are still hoping against all odds for him to return to EXO.

With his new mini album, he will likely be bombarded with questions at press events about his former group as neither he nor EXO’s label, S.M. Entertainment, has made an official statement on the matter.

S.M. has yet to issue a statement following the announcement, but has previously sworn to take strong legal action against its contracted members that embark on promotions without the company. They previously filed lawsuits in Shanghai and Hong Kong courts against Luhan and Kris for their individual activities there.
