Imagine this: You sign up for a career talk during your semester break and expect to spend a fruitful afternoon picking up tips that will help you in the future. All of a sudden, a technical issue with the audio feed grinds everything to a halt - only for music to start playing five minutes later, accompanied by the appearance of a very familiar-looking silhouette.

That's exactly what happened in Singapore Polytechnic yesterday (October 1) when one half of Leessang, Gary (who is also a regular cast member of the extremely popular Korean variety programme, Running Man) popped by our little red dot to film upcoming variety programme School's OUT.

Three episodes of the show are slated to be dedicated to his time spent in Singapore, with our sunny shores being one of the first stops that were confirmed for the series. While other Asian countries are still under consideration, we join Hong Kong as the only two cities that will be part of the original series.

Starting off his afternoon with his ever-popular 'Girl Who Can’t Leave; Boy Who Can’t Break Up', Gary then went on to play mini-games (with skinship galore) with his fans, who wrote in to the channel with a variety of reasons why they wanted their school to be picked.

One of the winning entries belonged to 18-year-old Doreen Ting, a second-year diploma in perfumery and cosmetic science student. While she confessed to being a big fan of the artiste, she grinned that her eldest brother, who is 30 this year, is an even bigger fan.

"He's one of my favourite men in the world; even though he's not really traditionally good looking, his personality is really great and I could feel that he was really humble and a hard worker," she mused.

In anticipation of his arrival, she concocted a perfume just for him. "I thought about him when I was making it and the scent is a woody, spicy smell that I feel suits his manly personality," Doreen explained.

While Gary joked that the students should work hard so that they "don't become someone like me when you grow up", he could do no wrong in the eyes of his adoring fans. In the words of the students who got up close and personal with Gary, "My heart was beating really fast when I saw him, and even now, I keep trying to tell myself to wake up from this dream."

Gary will hold a public meet-and-greet session today (October 2), 3pm at Wisma Atria's Level 1 Atrium.

School's OUT will premiere on channel M (Starhub Channel 824/874 & Singtel TV Channel 518) on November 14 at 8.30pm.

Hugs were on the menu for many of his fans, and he even agreed to playing the Pepero game (which usually ends up with lips touching) - which ended up not happening because there weren't any of the chocolate sticks on hand.

One of the mini-games was to transport cans of soft drinks from one point to the other with only both parties' cheeks for support.

Gary took no qualms with wading into the crowd, with many trying their luck - and succeeding - in scoring a selfie with the star.

Taking group shots with the aid of the official photographer are so last year. These days, it's all about selfie sticks - and Gary had one with extra oomph.

While some of the girls took a while to warm up, they were all more than excited to see their favourite star "5cm away from us".

What's a visit to Singapore without indulging in some local food? While Singapore Poly doesn't have the perennial Korean star favourite - chilli crab - Gary was equally delighted with items such as chicken rice, roti prata and ching tng.

Perfume-making is no mean feat, as seen by the looks of concentration on their faces.
