It’s not just in Singapore where guys have to shave their locks off and serve the nation – South Korea does so too. With Choi Siwon fast approaching the cutoff age (typically 29 years old) before which he has to head to the army, the question on many people’s minds is the same: when will he enlist?
In town to promote his latest movie, To the Fore, alongside director Dante Lam yesterday, we had a short window to speak to the superstar after the press conference held at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands.
With news of the Super Junior member passing a test to serve as a conscripted policeman circulating on Korean sites this week, we wondered if he would be allowed to address the question, which would definitely have been blocked by most Korean idols’ managements.
Registering a slight look of surprise while an attempt to stop him from answering was made, he waved off the protests with a, “No, it’s alright, I can answer,” before chuckling, “I’ll go back to Korea on August 11 after promotions (for To the Fore) are over and I’ll start filming for my new drama (Korean series She Was Pretty) then. After that, nothing’s decided yet but I’ll definitely have to go.”
While a definite date for his enlistment has yet to be confirmed, the 28-year-old is already looking to the future with big plans of furthering his acting career. “I’m really lucky to have met director (Dante Lam) and I’m just waiting for his call for the next movie,” he grinned.
