Insta-buzz: What the stars were up to this week

On Friday (September 23), Elvin Ng, Zoe Tay, Paige Chua and Romeo Tan flew to Phnom Penh for a meet-and-greet session the next day. The artistes received a superstar’s welcome at the airport, complete with bouquets, banners, and an enthusiastic crowd. The local actors even got to don the country's traditional costume in matching violet or blue hues, prompting praise from netizens about how well they pull off the looks.

On Tuesday (September 20), the veteran actress attended The 3rd Silk Road International Film Festival in Xi’an, China with Jack Neo and Wang Lei, where she met – and snapped a picture – with actor Aaron Eckhart, who is best known for playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in The Dark Knight. “He is so friendly, this is awesome”, she wrote in her caption.

Yikes! The actress had a frightening experience with her little girl Brooklyn on Wednesday (September 21) night, which she shared about in great detail in her post. According to Carole, she saved her daughter from a fall but accidentally displaced the child’s elbow in the process by holding her too tightly with Brooklyn’s arm in an awkward position.

“I felt like the worst mother in the world that night. The pain and guilt were worse than the exhaustion from the sleeplessness and baby carrying throughout the night”, wrote Carole, before sharing some tips so that other parents won’t make the same mistake she did.

The actress’s loyal fan club, The Beckers Team, organised an advance birthday celebration (with its own hashtag #BlessedBirthdayBecky) for her on Saturday (September 17), over a week before her actual September 26 birthday. To thank them for the sweet gesture, Rebecca sent them a lovely handwritten note expressing her gratitude and giving them valuable advice.

K-pop boy band EXO’s youngest member Sehun continued his long-running tradition of uploading pictures (sometimes strange and random ones) of his hyungs (a Korean term for “older brother”) on their birthdays. This time, it was for vocalist Chen, who turned 24 on Wednesday (September 21).

The group’s rapper Chanyeol also posted a screenshot of a conversation he had with “angel Jongdae (Chen’s real name)”, where he wished him a happy birthday. And, as Chen shares the same birthday with Chanyeol’s older sister, he asked him to relay his wishes to her as well.

Another idol who celebrated her birthday last week was Girls’ Generation’s feisty dancer Hyoyeon, who turned 27 on Thursday (September 22). Fellow members Sooyoung, Yuri, Seohyun and Yoona all posted sweet tributes to her on their pages, which included cute wefies or pictures with birthday cakes. Even Tiffany, who is on a social media hiatus after her recent Snapchat controversy, shared an abstract Instagram Story dedicated to her bandmate, which consisted of the words “#922” (for Hyoyeon’s birthdate) against a background of colourful sprinkles.

There sure were a lot of birthdays going on last week! September 23 was SHINee’s resident fashionista Key’s 24th birthday, while to-be-wed Class 95M DJ Jean turned 37 the day after that, and the both of them received adorable and creative cupcakes iced with cartoon characters.

Sadly, the week of celebrations was also a sad one for Aloysius Pang, who lost his precious pooch Yuki on Friday (September 23).

“I couldn't be with you when you took your last breath today because I'm stuck in camp... And now... All these memories of you are playing back in my head like a show reel. I know you're in a better place. Away from all the pain. Rest in peace my love. We'll meet again someday and you'll be back in my arms again.”

Fann came home one day to what is probably every mother’s dream sight: her son waiting to greet her with a bouquet of flowers! In her caption, the Ah Jie gushed over her little boy’s smile, saying that “that is the smile your father used to charm everyone, including your mother, when he was young”. All together now, everybody: Awww!

Is it just us, or is Andie and Kate’s little girl looking more and more like her big brother Aden each day? Even the frilliest and most feminine of headgear can’t hide that fact (not that it makes her any less adorable – look at those cheeks!).

The Ah Jie and her husband, pilot Philip Chionh, celebrated their 15th anniversary on Thursday (September 22) with a simple but sweet chocolate cake. In her caption, Zoe teased that although Philip’s “body shape has changed a little, skin has become a bit looser and temper has worsened a little”, he still looks good to her, and that overall, “you’re still better than me in all these aspects, hahaha!” Now that’s what we call love. Happy anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Chionh!

The duke, who is set to star in the remake of 2015 Chinese comedy Goodbye Mr. Loser, shared some insights into his filming experience, including one of him “Hanging out on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Literally” and another of him with a (fake?) bloody nose.

On Wednesday (September 21), Ian and his co-stars, including Taiwanese actress Huang Jia Qian, held a press conference in Malaysia to promote the film, where he shared about his challenges on set. The movie will hit local cinemas next year.

On Thursday (September 22) night, the duke shared an Instagram Story of himself having sweet treats at 2am: dessertbar with his rumoured girlfriend, who was playing with her phone before shyly covering her face. Felicia also posted a video of Jeffrey and another friend of theirs at the outing, with Jeffrey hilariously being unaware that he was being filmed.

A few days later, Chase Tan shared a wefie with the alleged couple who came to show their support for the Merlion Cup. "I don't want to thank Jeffrey because he's actually here to support Shanghai," Chase quipped in his caption, prompting Jeffrey to quickly comment, "Go go Singapore!!!"

Awww, look what we have here: newly-revealed couple Shane and 987FM DJ Kimberly Wang having the #bestnightever with Bastille and Queen + Adam Lambert at this year’s F1 festivities. Even fellow artistes Priscelia Chan and Julie Tan couldn’t help but gush over the sweetness in their comments, leaving heart emojis and calling them “sweet sweet couple” respectively.

Shane, Kimberly and the rest of us here in Singapore weren’t the only ones who got to rock out to Queen + Adam Lambert. The actress and hubby Tony enjoyed a date out at their Taipei gig on Monday (September 19), and according to her caption, Sonia was so excited that she didn’t mind standing on her feet throughout the two-hour showcase (even though she is currently pregnant with her second child).

The rapper made his well-documented love of art even more known in a very big way when he curated a contemporary art auction for Sotheby’s Hong Kong, which will take place on October 3 (this could explain why he’s missing his group’s Singapore concert). Well now, look who got to attend the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles last weekend. Not only did the Lush 99.5FM DJ get to rub shoulders with top TV stars such as James Corden, Ellie Kemper and the talented child actors from Stranger Things, she also got to hold Key & Peele star Keegan-Michael Key’s trophy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. Definitely an experience worth remembering!
