Qi Yuwu returns to Singapore for Joanne Peh’s second pregnancy
After expressing their keen interest to expand their brood and give ‘
baby Qi’ a younger sibling, celebrity couple Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh have put words to action and are now going to be parents for the second time.

Yuwu, who has been based in China for various acting projects during the past two years, just inked a new management contract with Mediacorp's The Celebrity Agency and is now considered a full-fledged artiste. With this new contract, he will be taking on more local projects which will allow him to spend more time with his pregnant wife, too, and Joanne is particularly happy to have his company during her pregnancy.

The expecting actress, who was discovered she was pregnant before filming for Dream Coder began, shared her joy with Toggle in a phone interview and said, “I’m very excited! (…) I’m just over the first trimester and it’s still too early to tell [the gender of the baby].”

Joanne, who hopes for her second child to be a girl, shared that she is having a tougher time with her second pregnancy, unlike her first experience. “I had nausea at night and I didn’t have a very good appetite. I don’t really want to eat but I’d still eat when it’s mealtimes and take in some food.

She had informed the executive producer and director of Dream Coder about her pregnancy and minor amendments were made to her role and several scenes to accommodate her too, said Joanne, who didn’t want to pass up on the opportunity to act despite being pregnant again.“I actually hope to return to acting and they didn’t mind that I was pregnant and so I don’t mind [going back to work] too,” she said, “I was worried they might find it troublesome and dangerous but we’re both very agreeable to working together [on it].”Joanne let on that the
pregnancy was unplanned for and unexpected and her husband even questioned if the pregnancy kit was “faulty” when she did a test. “Of course he’s very happy, he found it hard to believe too,” she laughed.

When quizzed if the baby was made in Singapore or made in China, Joanne laughingly replied, “What do you think?! He has to be around for it to happen! If you calculated the timing, you’d know the answer.”

In order to spend more time with her during her first trimester, Joanne shared that he extended his break and stayed in Singapore for a month, cooking nourishing soups for it to help boost her poor appetite, said Joanne. “When he first found out and had to return to China, he was in a fix; he was worried but he has to film, and he is scared that I’m too tired and can’t sleep well.”As they have to spend time countries apart for the time being, Joanne shared that they’d talk on the phone on a daily basis and also because “he wants to have more interactions with our daughter.”“It’s too painful for him to be away from our (firstborn) too, especially since she is more interactive now. When she was still a baby, it’s not as bad but he’d really miss her now,” she added.

Yuwu shares his happiness in an official statement released by TCA

In an official statement shared with his manager, Yuwu said, “Joanne and I are not the only children in our families and we’ve always wanted to have one more child after having our daughter (baby Qi) to give her a companion, but this ultimately depends on how Joanne is coping. It has been a year since her first delivery and her body is recuperating and in good shape, she has also started acting again and [we] didn’t expect for her to be pregnant again. We are really happy and satisfied, [we] don’t mind if it’s a boy or a girl!"

When she was pregnant in 2014, Joanne went on a work hiatus and only resumed work after baby Qi was born. However, she has no plans to stop work this time around, saying, “People usually say that parents are more relaxed with the second pregnancy (chuckles). I hope to continue to work if possible, but I don’t have anything lined up yet after this drama so we’ll wait and see.”
