A locally produced telemovie is the first Singaporean production to be nominated at the International Emmy Kids Awards.

On Wednesday (Oct 7), MediaCorp, the Media Development Authority (MDA), and Oak3 Films announced that the telemovie, Spelling Armadillo, was nominated in the "Kids: TV Movie / Mini-Series" category of the 4th International Emmy Awards.

Produced under MDA’s Public Service Broadcast (PSB) scheme, the telemovie was first broadcasted on MediaCorp's Channel 5 earlier this year.

The show, which traces the journey of a boy thrust into his school’s spelling competition, explores themes such as self-confidence and courage in pursuing one’s dreams.

“We value the trust that families place in us to educate and entertain their children,” said Bernard Lim, Head, Family Segment, MediaCorp. “Spelling Armadillo is an example of the quality content we work hard to create, to inspire imagination while reflecting the lives of our audience.”

A sequel to Spelling Armadillo is currently being filmed in Singapore, and is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2016.

MDA’s Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Industry Group), Angeline Poh, said “We are proud of Oak3 Films for being the first Singapore company to be recognised at the International Emmy Kids Awards with Spelling Armadillo. This is a great endorsement of the quality of the Singapore-made show. We hope that this achievement will inspire more of our producers to strive to create engaging content that resonates with their audiences and stand out in the highly competitive global market.”

The Awards will take place on Apr 5, 2016 in Cannes.
