RBKD GIVES BACK: As a tie-in with the fanclub’s annual anniversary celebrations, members of RBKD and Rui En spent a fruitful day volunteering and playing with five beneficiaries and their family members at Canberra Park’s inclusive playground on Saturday.

Unlike most regular playgrounds found in parks, the inclusive playground at Canberra Park has swings, slides and activity stations that are wheelchair-friendly and caters to children with special needs, giving them a chance to interact and have fun with their able-bodied peers.

The volunteer activity was a mammoth project that took two to three months to plan, which saw them communicating with six different government agencies to ensure no hiccups on the day itself, shared RBKD president Peh Xinyi, during a phone interview with Toggle. Apart from arranging the logistics, the committee had to plan ahead, taking into consideration unpredictable factors like the possibility of the haze worsening (the PSI climbed to unhealthy levels, almost hitting the 200-mark, one day before their outing).

Thankfully the outing went smoothly without a hitch and the skies cleared up considerably too, because both AWWA and the children’s parents did not wish to disappoint the kids who were on their September school holiday break, quipped Xinyi.
