The air buzzed with excitement as a bevy of local celebrities, influencers, and socialites alike mingled about in Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster’s store in Ion Orchard Singapore, its first flagship store in Southeast Asia.

As if on cue, everyone began gathering near the entrance of the store as the clock ticked closer to 6:30pm, the scheduled time for special guest, Korean actor Lee Dong Wook’s appearance.

Soon enough, accompanied by a cacophony of screams and yells, the statuesque 35-year-old strode smilingly into the store, dressed in a grey suit with a cheery yellow tee inside.

Though there were to be no questions taken or asked during his appearance, Lee Dong Wook more than dazzled everyone present with his good manners. Standing tall at the designated photo wall, he posed with the ease of a seasoned pro, turning from left to right, so that everyone could get a shot of him.

However, there was but one request that he could not bring himself to do. When a member of the media requested for the Korean actor to do the “finger-heart” pose, a favourite of all Korean celebrities, the actor surprisingly responded, “[No], I don’t like it,” in Korean, drawing laughs from everyone present.

After Lee Dong Wook strode into the enclosed area of the shop to check out the eyewear on display, Toggle took the opportunity to have a word with local actresses and sisters, Hayley and Jayley Woo, who revealed that they were fans of Lee Dong Wook.

“Yes, I’m familiar with him,” Hayley chirped. “He acted in a drama with Super Junior’s Lee Dong Hae in the past, and I’ve also watched Guardian: The Lonely and Great God!”

“When he walked past us earlier, I actually said to him, ‘Oppa, you’re really handsome’ in Korean,” Hayley confessed with a laugh. “He might have heard me, [because] he waved after that.”

But of course, the two sisters also revealed that they’ll still remain calm and composed even when meeting him.

“After all, we can’t embarrass the name of our local celebrities,” Jayley chimed in.

Alas, their meeting was not meant to be, as the actor made his exit from the store in the midst of their interview with Toggle.

Ah well, there’s always next time, right?
