What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
When I was in Singapore’s equivalent of Secondary Four [in China], I told my mum that I had to stay back in school for extra lessons, when I was actually going off to play computer games with my friends at an internet café.

So when I was at the café, happily playing my games, just like a scene out of a drama, someone started tapping my shoulder. I kept brushing the hand off, only to eventually turn around and realise that it was my mum. Wow, when I went home that day, I really got punished badly by her.

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
When my great aunt, great uncle and my older cousin passed away in a car accident over the Chinese New Year period. At that time, all of us lied, and didn’t tell my grandma about the accident. She was 90 at that time, and we didn’t want to give her a shock. As my older cousin studied in Japan, we told her that my great aunt and uncle had emigrated to Japan as well. That is the saddest lie I’ve ever had to tell, and it continued on until she passed away, around 10 years later. Actually, every year, during the Chinese New Year period, when my grandma asks after them, it’ll always be very hard on us. I think my grandma roughly knew what had happened to them, so she didn’t pursue the topic as well.

What was the last lie you told?
I lie very often (laughs) It wouldn’t be too good if I say this out… A few days ago, I had to film for Happy Can Already, but they only told me about it the night before the shoot. It was a 10 am shoot, but I had already made plans to go out that night, because I thought there wouldn’t be a shoot the next day. On the day of the shoot, I lied and said that I had indigestion as I’d eaten supper the night before, so I couldn’t make it for the shoot. I didn’t even tell Jack Neo directly, instead, I went through my company to notify the production crew.

So in the end, they agreed to let me rest for the day, and I was happy. But then, an hour later, Jack called me and asked me to come over, because I was acting as a pair of thieves with Patricia Mok, and it looked very weird for Patricia to be standing on stage alone.

After thinking for a while, my conscience got the better of me, so I agreed to come down. Once I reached, everyone gave me a hero’s welcome, making me feel so guilty! They haven’t found out yet, but when this gets published, they’ll know for sure.

What was the last lie you told?
Recently, I went out with my family for dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day. My mum wore something different for the dinner and asked me if she looked fat in the dress. I said no… But I mean it! She didn’t gain weight, it’s just that recently, she’s more blessed (or "round"). It’s normal, it’s okay!

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
When I lied to my sister, I guess. We’ve always been compared growing up, and sometimes, people will ask us questions that are more sensitive. I can’t reveal what the questions are, but to make sure that she wouldn’t get her feelings hurt and vice versa, [I’d lie]. We’re so close that if, for example, you say that I don’t look good today, I’d go around feeling insecure for the whole day. I wouldn’t go out of my way to lie, but it comes naturally some times.

When was the last time you regretted telling a lie?
There was once when I quarrelled with my parents. Looking back now, I was definitely telling a lie, but at that time, it didn’t feel like a lie to me. I was really really angry, and so I said that when I grew up and had the capability to do so, I’d definitely send them to a nursing home. I remember very clearly their reactions at that time, and I feel really bad when I think about it now.

What was the last lie you told?
I can’t remember, I’m a pretty honest person, and straightforward.

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
When I was in secondary school, I had a boyfriend, but I never told my parents about him. It was more of puppy love, when we were in Secondary Two. We didn’t even dare to hold hands on the bus, because we were afraid my mum’s friends would see. We’d talk on the phone, but I’ll do so while pretending to do my homework, so that it’ll look like I was discussing schoolwork instead.

What was the last lie you told?
This morning, when I greeted someone with, ‘Hello, how are you, beautiful?’ (laughs)

The most recent one should be towards [celebrity hairstylist] Addy Lee. We went overseas to Penang together, the four of us. Within 24 hours, we ate over 30 dishes, from the moment we stepped off the plane.

That day, he asked me, “Will I put on weight, [with all the different food that we’ve been eating]?”, so I immediately went, “No…. definitely not!”.

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
It’s not the biggest, but I used to tell my dad that I was free and that he could come to Singapore, when I wasn’t actually free, because I really wanted to see him.

What was a lie that you regretted telling?
I don’t think I’ve regretted a lie, because I’m someone with no conscience (laughs).

What was the last lie you told?
I’ve been lying everyday, because I have to communicate with my children. It’s mostly whenever I say that we’ll go to a certain place as a reward, but because of work (or bad weather), there’s not enough time. So, I’ll tell them that we’d go there tomorrow instead. It’s harder to lie to kids though (laughs), because they’ll remember it forever, but I’ll make up for it as well after that, by bringing them out the next day as well.

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
There was once, as a student, I had to get my parents to sign on my test, to acknowledge my results. But, I didn’t score very well, so I didn’t dare to give the test paper to my mum. So I hid the test paper underneath her bed. In the end, she found the paper while she was sweeping the floor. Luckily, my teacher had taught us a tactic to appease our parents when we did badly in tests. Following his advice, I took out the feather duster, laid it in front of her, knelt down and apologised.

The tactic really worked, and all she said was, “Okay, do better next time.”

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
Whenever I said that I’m full, but I’m actually not full. But for those who know me, they’ll just continue putting food on my plate anyway. That’s a lie that I say almost on a day-to-day basis. I’d tell myself that I’d just eat this and go off to exercise later, but that’s a lie. It’s my every day struggle.

What was the last lie you told?
I’m not a good liar, so I rarely lie. I think the last time I lied was when I was meeting my friends, and I told them that I was “on the way” when actually, I’d just left the house. But my friends know me well, so whenever I’d say that I was “on the way”, they’d know that I just left the house.

What is the biggest lie you’ve ever told?
When I told my friends and family that I’m single, and that I had broken up with my boyfriend, when in reality, we had gotten back together after breaking up. At that time, I didn’t feel like I needed to explain the whole thing to them, though they eventually found out, because I’m not a very good liar.
