Celebs who rocked ads with their kids

Never underestimate the power and appeal of a happy family picture – it works wonders for the positive image for brands as it does for celebs who endorse it. For some of these famous people, like Edmund Chen and Xiang Yun, doing commercials with their children are their way of capturing beautiful moments of their kids and a good way to document their child’s growth over the years in an artistic and professional manner.

Take for example, Edmund, who recently worked on a rice commercial film (CF) and video celebrating a letter-writing movement called ‘Write a Letter SG’ with his 15-year-old daughter Chen Yixin. The former actor shared that he and his wife are more selective about the kinds of CFs they’d do with their kids and said, during a phone interview with Toggle, his two projects with Yixin are about “family bonding”

The artist also revealed that he was reduced to a puddle of tears at the filming of Write a Letter SG, which required him to pen a letter to his daughter and talk about it in the video. “I got so emotional, it really affected me so much despite being quite prepared. I broke down when I thought about her growing up so soon, becoming a big girl and having to part with her after integrating my whole life with hers,” he laughed.

Both father and daughter have starred in a variety of other commercials which also feature Xiang Yun and their son, Chen Yixi, over the course of their children’s growing up years. “It’s a good way to “time lock” these precious moments with them,” quipped Edmund, “But of course, the product has got to be right too.”

While his daughter doesn’t get paid endorsements fees for her “guest appearance” on dad’s commercial, Edmund revealed that in return for her help, she gets an education ang pao (red packet) which will be go into a fund for her future use (“she cannot access the fund now!” he chuckled).

You can call Eric the face of Kee Wah Bakery, having appeared in numerous commercials for the famed Chinese bakery over the years. What better way to depict kinship between a pair of father and daughter who are living in different countries than to show Eric surprising his little girl (Bowie lives in Taiwan with her mum) with a box of pastries before she scuttles to catch the next flight out of Hong Kong?
