Concerts that we really, really want to see in Singapore

It’s been a bumper year for concerts in Singapore as concert after concert have been announced to be taking place on our little red dot.

Even with the stellar lineup that’s slated to bring their A-games to us this year (and even next year; for example, Jay Chou), we can’t help but to wish that we could have a little more.

Click on to check out our wishlist of 11 gigs we wish we could see in Singapore in the near future. Fingers crossed.

S.H.E

Last visit: Forever Stars 2015 Singapore concert

In between the last time S.H.E was here and now, much has happened to the trio – perhaps most notably, Ella has become a mother.

While it’s been some time since they have promoted as a group (that doesn’t stop them from spending loads of time together, as the three of them are known to be close friends), we sure hope that they’ll be announcing new material soon, and with that, a tour that would be most welcome on our little red dot.

Last visit: INFINITE EFFECT in Singapore, 2015

It’s been too long since INFINITE has graced our shores, and with the recent news that their contracts with label Woollim Entertainment are due to expire (reports have claimed that out of the seven, six have renewed their contracts but one has yet to sign on the dotted line), we can’t help but to hope that INFINITE will bring us good news real soon.

Bruno Mars

Last visit: The Moonshine Jungle Tour, 2014

Bruno Mars is currently on tour for his 24K Magic World Tour, which unfortunately has no Asian stops announced just quite yet. The nearest confirmed gig is likely to be in Perth, which will be held in March 2018.

Since his Asian leg of the tour (well, we’re hoping there will be an Asian leg, given that this is a world tour) has yet to be announced, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that he’ll stop by Singapore too.

WANNA ONE

Last visit: Never

After the massive popularity of their senior group, I.O.I, it’s understandable how expectations ran high for Produce 101 Season 2’s project group. WANNA ONE, which was recently formed after the dramatic finale, has already seen their popularity soar.

Case in point – skincare brand Innisfree launched a promotion where spending KRW10,000 (S$12) in their stores would earn you a poster of one of the members. Queues at the stores in Korea snaked around blocks and were reportedly hours-long, but dedicated fans stood their ground in order to get their hands on the prized posters.

With reports that the group is considering going on a concert tour while the group is active for the next two years, we can’t help but to wonder if they’ll pop by our island – maybe then, we’ll be able to see – and hear - what the fuss is all about.

JJ Lin

Last visit: JJ LIN TIMELINE: GENESIS WORLD TOUR, 2015

Homeboy JJ Lin has built up an impressive career since he spread his wings for Taiwan, where he is currently based. While his last full-length gig was in 2015, he also put on a stunning performance last year at the Star Awards, where we were given a taste of his ever-growing talents.

Last year, he also announced that he wouldn’t be putting out an album, but has thus far kept mum on his plans for 2017. With a few months left on the calendar, let’s hope that he’ll be able to return to us with even better music soon.

Girls’ Generation

Last visit: Girls’ Generation World Tour Girls and Peace in Singapore, 2013

Wow, has it been that long since Girls’ Generation has graced our shores? Given that they gave Singapore during their last tour, Girls' Generation's Phantasia, it’s no wonder that local SONEs have gone too long without their dose of them.

With 2017 being the group’s 10th anniversary, they have also confirmed that they will be holding an anniversary fan meeting to commemorate the occasion. With luck, they’ll also announce a tour, and this time include us in the party.

U2

Last visit: Never

Wait, what? It’s been over four decades since U2 first debuted, and yet, they’ve never once performed in Singapore. While this nugget of information might seem surprising to some, there have been rumours that they are in talks to play in Singapore.

While these have yet to be confirmed by concert organisers or the band themselves, we sure hope to be treated to their amazing music one day.

BLACKPINK

Last visit: Never

BLACKPINK in our area? Uh, not quite yet. After their debut in August 2016, this quartet has been billed monster rookies after taking the world by storm.

As the group doesn’t have enough songs under their belt to hold a full-fledged concert just yet, we’re wondering if their label, YG Entertainment, will let them out into the big world as part of a joint concert line-up (think Music Bank) or for a fan meeting. One can only hope.

Maroon 5

Last visit: 2015 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix

It seems like just yesterday when we were getting all hyped up for Maroon 5’s gig in Singapore, but it’s been almost two years since they last played here.

The gig was a full-length one as part of their Asian leg of the V Tour, which they are – amazingly – still on, and they’re set to kick off the 13th leg of the tour in Latin America this September. By the time they end the tour, we’re thinking that they’re likely to release new material before contemplating going on tour again. Let the wait begin.

Stefanie Sun

Last visit: SING, LOVE – THE CONCERT, 2015

After holding her 2014 Kepler World Tour at the National Stadium, Stefanie performed at the SING, LOVE concert as part of the nation’s celebration of our 50th year of independence in 2015.

It’s also been a while since she put out her last studio album, with Kepler being announced in 2014. With no rumblings of a new album in the works, it might be some time before this songbird will be gracing us with a full-length gig anytime soon.

BTS

Last visit: BTS 2014 Live Trilogy Episode II: The Red Bullet in Singapore

Ah yes, BTS. Those of you who have been following our social media accounts know that we’ve been making not-so-subtle hints about this gig, but as of right now, we can only say that you’ll just have to sit tight and wait for good news to come your way.

The group has recently completed their list of confirmed shows on their 2017 BTS Live Trilogy Episode III: The Wings Tour, but has hinted that they are considering more overseas stops before taking the final bow for this concert tour.

And in case you’re here for yet another hint from us, here’s one for you: It won’t be too late to say “Happy Birthday!” to Jin when they pop by this time around.

UPDATE (August 5): The WINGS Tour in Singapore was originally slated for December 8 and 9, but due to a change in plans, BTS will be performing in Seoul on that day instead. We'll share any updates if and when we have them.
