CRAZY RICH ASIANS: The most baller celebrity houses

After four months of intense filming across Asia, the much-anticipated Crazy Rich Asians finally wrapped in Singapore in the last week of June.

Just how opulent will the sets be, and how baller will these fictional crazy rich Asians be? We might not have the answer to these questions just yet, but we’ve realised one thing: whatever is portrayed in the film (and novel) might not be too far off from reality.

Take Taiwanese actress-turned-stay-at-home mum Pace Wu for example – not only did she splurge S$70.2 million on a luxury apartment last year, she also spent S$1.8 billion on crystal dragons for her boyfriend’s mother.

And the best part? Her house isn’t the most expensive on our list.

For those who can’t wait for the upcoming film based on Kevin Kwan’s novel, we’ve got the real deal for you – ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ celebrities who splashed out copious amounts of money on property. Get ready to be dazzled.

Raymond Lam

Crib’s net worth: S$3.5 million (HK$20 million)

Before you sniff at Hong Kong actor Raymond Lam’s S$3.5 million apartment at the luxury Island Crest development, check this out: in the same year that he purchased the property, he is said to have bought a S$5.07 million (HK$30 million home for his girlfriend and fellow Hong Kong actress, Karena Ng.

The house, which was bought in 2014, is said to have been a 21st birthday present for her when she celebrated her birthday in October that year. How’s that for a birthday present?

Crib’s net worth: S$3.5 million

Yes, that’s a local star you see on the list. Elvin was all over the headlines earlier this year after moving into his 5,500 square foot semi-detached home earlier this year, which was also single-handedly designed by him.

Renovations cost the local actor a cool S$1 million (yes, that’s enough for you to buy a house), it’s no wonder he’s proud of his labour of love. With this house, Elvin has also fulfilled his late father’s wish for the entire family to live together in a landed property. Bonus points for filial piety.

Crib’s net worth: S$6.06 million (KRW5 billion)

Power couple Rain and Kim Tae Hee, splashed out KRW5 billion for a three-storey mansion in Itaewon which could see fellow A-listers Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo possibly becoming their neighbours in the near future, but more on that later.

Prior to moving in together, the Korean couple had other properties under their respective names – Rain has a villa worth KRW6.2 billion (S$7.51 million) and Kim Tae Hee owns one that amounts to a cool KRW7 billion (S$8.5 million). To drive up those dollar signs a tad further, the couple is said to have combined assets worth KRW50 billion (S$60.6 million).

Crib’s net worth: S$10.9 million (KRW9 billion)

Soon-to-be Mrs. Song Joong Ki has some properties under her belt – or rather, name – as well. The Korean starlet reportedly owns three homes in the affluent neighbourhood of Samseong, with the most expensive being valued at KRW9 billion.

The combined value of her three homes is a whopping KRW20.5 billion (S$24.83 million), and she also has an apartment in New York City, which is believed to have been put up for sale right now.

Song Joong Ki

Crib’s net worth: S$12.12 million (KRW10 billion)

It’s no wonder that A-lister Song Joong Ki is on this list. Prior to his surprise wedding announcement to Descendants of the Sun co-star Song Hye Kyo, he purchased a luxury house in Itaewon which is reportedly worth S$11.98 million and  believed to be their matrimonial home.

It looks like we’ll have to wait for until after the wedding before we’ll know for sure if the couple’s moving to Itaewon, but one thing is certain – that house is probably too big for just one person.

Also, we might be jumping the gun here, but how cute would it be to see Rain and Kim Tae Hee, along with Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo’s future children growing up together? Cue the Boys Over Flowers theme song, please.

Jet Li

Crib’s net worth: S$20 million

Don’t be surprised if you see martial arts actor Jet Li strolling along the Bukit Timah area on a lazy Sunday. After all, the superstar owns a sprawling three-storey good class bungalow in Binjai Park. While few have been privileged enough to sneak a peek at his home (the long driveway contributes to the top-notch security and privacy of the actual house), we’re sure that it lives up to its hefty price tag.

Here’s another fun fact: the house was previously owned by the founder of FJ Benjamin, Frank Benjamin. Jet purchased the home about a year after relocating with his wife and daughters to Singapore.

Jay Chou

Crib’s net worth: S$28.54 million (NT$660 million)

You can’t be the King of Mandopop without a suitable uh, palace to oversee your kingdom, right? We kid, but Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou’s luxury penthouse is said to give him a bird’s eye view of Taipei.

The property, located in Peace Garden, took over 10 years to complete as the developer took special care to ensure the quality of the final building. Said to feature components such as stone columns and a viewing gallery, it sure sounds like a mansion (in the sky) fit for a king.

Pace Wu

Crib’s net worth: S$70.26 million (HK$400 million)

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you – Taiwanese model-actress Pace Wu’s crib is probably the most baller piece of property we have on our list. The two-storey home is reported to take up a total of 5,000 square feet and includes a rooftop garden and private pool cum garden area, and was paid for in full by Pace when she signed on the dotted line.

This probably doesn’t come as a surprise, however, given the S$1.8 billion crystal dragons that she bought for her boyfriend’s mother for the opening of an eight-star hotel she invested in.

Angelababy

Crib’s net worth: S$242 million (HK$1.35 billion)

Topping our list (for now, at least) is Angelababy, who purchased an ultra-luxury home in Hong Kong earlier this year. Said to be located in the ritzy Residence Bel-Air, the unit is said to have a stunning view of Victoria Harbour.

News of the Hong Kong model-actress’ purchase became a hot topic on social networking site Weibo, with many arguing over the astronomical price tag of the house. Hey, it’s not our money, but since she earned it, we reckon she has every right to spend it.

SPECIAL MENTION: Choi Siwon

SPECIAL MENTION: Choi Siwon

Crib’s net worth: Unknown

Super Junior’s Siwon is known to many as one of – if not, the richest – idol in the K-Pop industry. With both his parents reportedly at the helm of big companies, Siwon is said to own several properties (yes, that includes both houses and buildings) under his name.

While he has never revealed the actual value or location of his homes, EXO’s leader Suho once revealed on a broadcast of Mnet’s Beatle Code 2 that his apartment is next to Siwon’s. With apartments there reaching sky-high prices (variety star Kang Ho Dong, for example, has an apartment there that costs KRW3.5 billion, or S$4.2 million), we wonder how much Siwon’s house (or rather, houses) are really worth.
