Even before her recent Twitter beef with Taylor Swift, Nicki once got rid of her account after getting a fan site removed for leaking tracks off her unreleased album. Those fans began to rally people against her, saying “She unfollowed us. How mean is she?”, and shortly after that, Nicki’s account was gone.

The rapper returned that same day very briefly to tweet, “On second thought I’ll just follow a new set of barbz. The ones I follow r very mean and ratchet. *side eyes them* *looks into the sea for more* (sic)” before deactivating her account again. Reviving her account eight days later, Nicki insisted the album leak incident wasn’t the cause of her temporary departure (she said “I just needed a moment to myself… I wouldn’t delete my Twitter over that” in the interview), but we find that pretty hard to believe.

Reason: He’d been found!

His personal account (@peaceeminusone) which he kept secret was exposed last year, revealing his second ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Instavideo where he nominated on-and-off girlfriend Japanese actress-singer Mizuhara Kiko.

His main account (@xxxibgdrgn) still remains and he has even reached a new milestone this year by crossing the five million followers mark.

Reason: Her account handle (@mrskutcher) had to go after her extremely public breakup and divorce from Ashton Kutcher

Demi deleted her Twitter and checked herself into rehabilitation because she was “exhausted” from the breakup. Five months after her split, she finally returned to the social networking site and asked her followers to decide on a new handle for her, but decided to go with @justdemi.

Reason: He didn’t give one, but his fellow actor spoke on behalf of him and said he was “busy”

Final tweet: “I’m quitting Twitter and this is my last post~ ^^ I’ve had fun… and thank you for the interest ^^ bye!! (sic)”

The Super Junior member left a happy goodbye note, stating that “it has been good fun” and deleted his account without giving a reason. Actor Lee Jong Han, who acted as his father in Musical Akilla then replied fans who questioned why, saying that he deleted twitter because he was too “busy” to “constantly check his phone”.

Reason: Her posts generated dozens of hate comments

After a few days of posting couple photos with Sungmin (the couple got married last year) on Instagram, the both of them deleted their personal accounts due to a massive amount of hate comments telling Sungmin to leave Super Junior after he went public with their relationship in 2014. The actress still remains Instagram-less to date, but Sungmin has recreated his.

Reason: An “overwhelming amount of negativity”

Final tweets: “The reason I don’t tweet as much as I used to, is because I’m sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily. Goodbye twitter.” And “Fans that have something to say can tweet me on the one direction account”

His reason for leaving Twitter sounds similar to his reason for leaving One Direction. Additionally, he caused yet another fiasco earlier this year in May when he deleted all One Direction references from his Twitter, including changing his handle from @ZaynMalik1D to simply @ZaynMalik and deleting the link in his bio that led to the group’s website. Directioners expressed their devastation with the hashtag #YouWillAlwaysBeZaynMalik1D.

Youngjae’s reason: He wanted to concentrate on school

Youngjae first ventured into Instagram early last year and quit a few months later because he “wanted to focus on studying for his college entrance exam”. Next, he created a new one again in December last year and deleted it in February before finally making up his mind and creating his current account on May 18 (@jbmtjr.jsyjbbyk).

On May 30, his fellow member Jaebum (JB) left fans very concerned when he suddenly deleted both his Instagram and Twitter with no reason left behind, but has since recreated his Instagram and Twitter with new handles @defjayb and @def_jayb, and began sharing new videos as well as photos of his performances.

Reason: She wants to keep her “private life private”

Final tweet: “FYI Liam doesn’t have a Twitter and he wants ME to delete mine with good reason”

Her beau at the time, Liam Hemsworth, told her to delete her Twitter because he didn’t have one, but afterwards, she posted a YouTube video explaining the true reason why with a rap.

“No, it wasn’t because my friend told me to… I stopped living for moments and started living for people… Everything that I type and everything that I do, all those lame gossip sites take it and they make it news. I want my private life private… I ain’t living for tabloids, I’m living for me… And the truth is I’m too busy… I was a little obsessed but I’m peacing out and I’m leaving with this. Goodbye.”

Dramatic, but somewhat creative.

Reason: He accomplished the reason for creating it

Final post: “EXODUS CALL ME BABY, See you on the official homepage”

Kai created his account in mid-March and began promoting EXO’s new comeback album Exodus with videos of him dancing and performing, but deleted it less than a month later after he was finished with promotions.

He had one last cute moment on Instagram before leaving though, as wasn’t sure about how to delete his account and asked fans in the comments, “Where do you delete the account? Do I just need to log out?”

Reason: She received hateful comments after declaring she was on “Team Jacob”

Back then, it was a huge deal if you chose to be on either “Team Edward” (Robert Pattinson) or “Team Jacob” (Taylor Lautner) – your preferred pairing for the leading lady Bella Swan played by Kristen Stewart in the Twilight saga.

When the actress declared her stand on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, telling Robert Pattinson who was with her on the show: “Your hair looks wonderful in person but I have to say I’m Team Jacob”, she ended up creating a big uproar and deleted her Twitter account to stay out of it.

Reason: He wanted to restart with a consistent theme

The local actor didn't leave, but he emptied his Instagram during the last week of June and is back up to speed as he began posting new photos with a new “theme” or meaning.

However, he never publicly addressed why he cleared the account and left fans questioning: “What’s with the restart?” For the record, when we last checked with Ian, he just wants to start things on a clean slate.

Reason: He was accused of rape and made an insensitive comment about it

Final tweet: “I sincerely apologise for my comments being taken so far out of context… Please forgive me… I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.”

CeeLo’s insensitive comments about rape, including “People who have really been raped remember”, turned netizens against him and caused a major spat online.

The rapper began to rant about the topic after he was accused on Twitter of raping a woman who claimed that she woke up naked next to CeeLo and accused him of drugging her with ecstasy. After finishing up his rant, he apologized, quickly deleted the tweets and his account altogether.
