Happy first wedding anniversary!

NOT love at first sight: Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh have collaborated on umpteenth projects – and were even paired together on multiple occasions in reel-life, before they officially got together, but sparks did not fly between the two until a fateful C.L.I.F. 2 which awakened the actor’s dormant feelings for the actress. By then, a connection had been built between them over the years, based on “friendship, respect and admiration”. Naturally he confessed, two weeks later she said yes, and the rest is history.

After dating for over a year and one drama (C.L.I.F. 3) later, they finally sealed the deed and became man and wife on this very day, one year ago. As they embark on a journey called ‘parenthood’ with their month old infant “Baby Qi”, we figured there’s no better time than now to do a #throwback of their past collaborations and key moments of their relationship on their first wedding anniversary.

Joanne has been very open about her choice to breastfeed ‘Baby Qi’, her equally supportive husband is behind her decision too and marveled that “time disappears” every time he looks at this view at home - a tender moment shared between mum and daughter.

Before the official cast details were revealed, many believed that the married couple will be paired up for this SG50 movie. Contrary to popular belief, they both played characters who are not remotely related to each other - Joanne’s character has a loveline with Yuwu’s onscreen brother played by James Seah instead.

Yuwu surprised everyone with his culinary skills when he whipped up a feast for the pioneer generation at this event. In turn, the Guangzhou-born actor was caught off guard by the missus when Joanne appeared unannounced at the venue. In case you missed it, we also learned that Joanne’s favourite dish by Yuwu is his oxtail stew.

After announcing news of their expectancy, work took a backseat for the actress and Joanne’s bump was nowhere in sight (except when she graced the cover of ELLE magazine) – until she took the red carpet at the Star Awards in a simple purple shift dress. All attention was on the bump and the actress, naturally, who picked up a Best Supporting Actress award that night for her role in The Journey: Tumultuous Times.

From reel-to-real-to-reel: The sequel of this popular TV series was the couple’s first collaboration as an on-screen couple since getting together. Was it awkward playing lovers before the cameras? Slightly. The best bonus though - in their words - is being able to see and be with each other 24/7, on and off the cameras, while waiting on set.

All eyes were on them, in their first public outing at a unit, but they infamously evaded the media on the night of Show 1, rejecting interview requests because “what they want to say is already published in the magazine (8 DAYS).”

2011: A Song to Remember

In this dramatic and elaborate piece about a performing arts troupe, the budding romance between violinist Mo Li Guang (Yuwu) and the troupe’s lead performer Yu Hong (Joanne) ends on a dismal note, unfortunately, due to a myriad of reasons such as trust issues and, ultimately, death.

In a rehash of their on-screen love triangle relationship (as seen in Beautiful Connection) with Jeanette, ‘Little Nyonya’ was a case of unrequited love for Yuzhu (Joanne) who decidedly steps out of this tangled romance to give Yueniang (Jeanette) and Chen Xi (Yuwu) a happy ending of their own.

In her first Channel 8 drama series, Joanne was paired up Yuwu, whose character had a thing for Jeanette Aw’s character. All’s well ends well for the couple (in this case, we are referring to Joanne and Yuwu) after the latter’s overbearing ways drives her boyfriend away.
