The ‘Ah Boys to Men’ star and budding actress have been revealed as the leads for the upcoming FLY Entertainment period flick

Three years after he first found fame as the no-nonsense Platoon Sergeant Ong in the first of Jack Neo’s highly-acclaimed Ah Boys to Men trilogy, Tosh Zhang is set to show a brand new side of him in My Love, Sinema.

On Saturday (Nov 7), a lensing ceremony was held in Ipoh, Malaysia to announce the cast and production team of the upcoming period romance, which kicked off filming yesterday (Nov 8). The flick previously won Taiwan’s Golden Horse Film Project Promotion Post Production Award in 2011, and is slated for a 2016 release.

Making her big screen debut is Mata Mata star Cheryl Wee as a young Chinese teacher who falls in love with a film projectionist, played by Tosh. Unfortunately, the onscreen couple is met with various obstacles that prevent them from being together.

Joining the leads in the line-up are Malaysian actor Zen Chong and Taiwanese TV star Jeff Wang, who plays Tosh’s mentor. FLY Entertainment founder Irene Ang and BioPerfect Marketing Dawn Yip come on-board as executive producers, Scout Pictures’ Flora Goh serves as producer, while Tan Ai Leng takes the director’s seat. The movie boasts a reported production cost of $1.5 million and will be shot in Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

“This film has been five years in the making and we are very proud that it is finally coming to fruition,” said Irene in a statement. “As a love story transcending through the decades, we hope that My Love, Sinema will touch a lot of hearts because it doesn’t cater to just one generation. The idea is to create a rollercoaster of emotions of the past meeting the present to determine the future.”
