Former actor Xie Shao Guang has made his grand comeback – but not in the way that you would imagine. Instead of participating in an acting project, the 56-year-old conducted a two-day acting workshop in Mediacorp for the past two days.

Numerous young artistes such as Elvin Ng, Ya Hui, Romeo Tan, Andie Chen and Sora Ma attended Shao Guang’s acting workshop, from photos shared with the media.

Split into a two-part introductory workshop, his workshops focused on two key elements: the diagnostics and the core of acting. This comes from Shao Guang’s experiences and observations throughout the years, and he shared that he developed a detailed acting syllabus where he weaved in his observations of human behaviour and life explorations into an authentic approach to acting.

Shao Guang said in a statement shared with the press: “I decided to leave showbiz because I was drained both physically and mentally. In the 10 years since then, I’ve understood even more clearly that acting skills can be drawn from your real-life experiences, and is a form of art that depicts life.”

“I’ve realised a great number of things after fulfilling 10 years of volunteer service. In the past, my colleagues wanted to collaborate with me, but making my return to stand in front of all the cameras is something that we’ll have to wait for since the time is not yet right,” he continued.

Shao Guang added, “Before I left showbiz, we’ve had sharing sessions where we talked about acting, and given the chance, I’d like to share my experiences again. This is my greatest interest and passion (…) I’m lucky that the audience and my colleagues have acknowledged my acting, and now that I have a better understanding of the emotions and performance skills, I think there’s more that I can share with everyone.”

“By holding this workshop, if I’m able to help my acting friends find a breakthrough in their acting or make their passion for the craft burn even stronger, it will be all the reward I need for the love that I have for performing.”

Chong Liung Man, Head of Chinese Drama Productions, also shared his delight at Shao Guang’s return. “Shao Guang, who’s been absent (from our screens) for some time, is an actor that we all miss dearly.

“For the past 10 years, we’ve invited him numerous times to be part of our projects but have never succeeded because it was not meant to be. This time, he agreed to hold the acting workshop and share his thoughts on acting and interpretations based on his experience, which is a rare opportunity,” he said.

Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait too long to see him on TV again.
