If you love puns and Star Wars, then today (May 4) is your day. Known as Star Wars Day thanks to the play on the famous line “May the Force be with you” (which becomes “May the fourth be with you”), the occasion is celebrated by diehard fans around the world. Some companies even organise a variety of events and festivities, including Disneyland and Walt Disney World (Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars in 2012).

Some famous folks have also been known to declare their love for the sci-fi classic in very public ways. Click through to meet these high-profile Star Wars nerds:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in cinemas on December 15.

EXO’s Suho

The whole group may have collaborated with Star Wars to come up with catchy track ‘Lightsaber’, but it is leader Suho who is particularly renowned for his adoration of the franchise – he’s even been spotted wearing things like Stormtrooper jackets and Darth Vader scarves at the airport.

But his level of fan-boying has had the chance to go beyond just flaunting nerdy wardrobe choices. When director J.J. Abrams and stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver were in Seoul to promote The Force Awakens, Suho, along with members Sehun and Chanyeol, joined them on stage, where they interacted briefly (of course Suho had to make known his love for Star Wars) and exchanged gifts (the boys got their own lightsabers).

Suho also had the chance to take a tour of Lucasfilm in San Francisco with Baekhyun, where they shopped, were wowed by the exhibitions and took loads of pictures (including a hilarious one of them being taken hostage by Stormtroopers).

Under that dimpled smile and soulful voice is someone who not only geeks out over Star Wars, but is also apparently very drawn towards the dark side of the Force. In fact, when JJ showed up to the Taipei premiere of The Force Awakens, he paid no heed to red carpet (or in this case, black carpet) formalities and showed up as baddie Kylo Ren, floor-sweeping dark robe, cross-shaped lightsaber and all.

The crooner also had the chance to check out a cool Star Wars exhibition, where he demonstrated his Darth Vader breathing sounds (he reportedly sounded exactly like the real thing) and turned into a big fan boy upon seeing the iconic X-wing fighter. Can someone get him involved with the next Star Wars musical collaboration, please?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Like JJ, Joseph showed up to the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Hollywood also dressed up as a character, but was far less mindful of his celebrity image: he painted his face green and put on fake ears and a bathrobe to channel well pointy-eared sage Yoda. Completing the charmingly down-t0-earth ensemble was a pair of Grinch pyjama pants, because if you’re going for the DIY nerd look, might as well go all the way. As the pint-sized but powerful Jedi Master famously said, “Do or do not, there is no try.”

About a month before that, Joseph was asked if there was a chance he was appearing in the next instalment Episode VIII (which is directed by his frequent collaborator Rian Johnson), and he cheekily replied, “I knock on [Rian’s] door every day, and I’m like, ‘Am I in the movie yet? Am I in the movie yet? Dude! No, seriously dude. It’s important to me! I want to be in the movie!’ We’ll see.”

“Ever since I was a kid I’ve been a MASSIVE Star Wars fan,” wrote the Sam Willows heartthrob on Instagram next to a photo of himself flaunting a Galactic Empire cap, followed by an exciting announcement that he was headed to the world premiere of The Force Awakens in Los Angeles in December last year. Dressed in an outfit inspired by the franchise’s newest hero Finn, Ben interviewed other fans on the red carpet and hung out with Glee star Darren Criss before being one of the lucky ones to catch the film ahead of anyone else.

Ben concluded his “trip of a lifetime” with a lengthy post gushing about his experience and the film, which he described as “magical”. He also openly voiced his desire to own his own BB-8, and we won’t be surprised if fan girls started flooding his doorstep with replicas and plush toys of the adorable round droid.

The bubbly starlet got to nerd out for a good cause when she participated in a Star Wars-themed cancer awareness campaign, where she donned Princess Leia’s famous hair buns and recited lines from the movie (with much precision and seriousness, unlike the others who put a comic spin on their renditions).

Emma paid a visit to “a galaxy far, far away” again in a hilarious Saturday Night Live spoof, which had celebrities auditioning for a role in The Force Awakens (and failing spectacularly). Well, given the fact that she has been completely open about her geeky past (she taught herself HTML and had dreams of becoming a website designer), it’s not really surprising that she would display such unabashed affection for the crème de la crème of nerdy pop culture.

She may star in Transformers, but Megan is enamoured with an entirely different robot – the beloved bumbling, beeping R2D2, of which she has a life-sized replica model in her home. That alone mirrors some serious dedication because one of those things can easily cost up to the thousands, and hers certainly looks like one of the better-made, higher-end ones.

At one point, there were even rumours that the brunette babe was up for a role in The Force Awakens (then just known as Star Wars Episode VII), after it was hinted that there would be a female lead (the role that went to brilliant newcomer Daisy Ridley). The gossip mill went into further overdrive when Megan shared a selfie of herself holding a picture of Boba Fett, however, as we all know now, none of the speculation turned out to be true.

Mike Kasem

The GOLD 905 DJ made quite a convincing Jedi at the Singapore gala premiere of The Force Awakens, where he showed up in a recognisable earth-toned robe and made a number of hand gestures as if he was utilising the Force. In his Instagram posts, the self-proclaimed “sci-fi geek” said that he had been waiting over 30 years for this night, as he “had a little piece of his heart missing” since 1983’s Return of the Jedi, and that he even teared up during the film.

In an interview, Mike revealed that Star Wars changed his life after he first caught the earlier films as a kid, and that he thought he was gifted with the Force (which took him “a long time to figure out” that he didn’t). If we’re being honest, judging from his enthusiastic antics at the premiere, we think Mike still secretly wishes he did possess the powerful Force (then again, which Star Wars devotee doesn’t?).

The actor channelled his inner Obi Wan Kenobi with a mobile app that gave him a robe, lightsaber, and even Darth Vader looming ominously behind him. “I’m a Star Wars fan… can you tell?” he wrote in his caption.

Bobby flaunted his love again a few weeks later when he snapped a selfie in a Mickey Mouse/C3PO hybrid hat at Disneyland, accompanied with loads of grinning emojis in his caption to show just how excited he was.
