Deng Chao has been a cast member of the Chinese variety show Keep Running since season one in 2014. It was revealed in a programme that the actor’s earnings from just one episode was RMB 1 million (approximately S$204,000), which was the same amount as what Korean host Yoo Jae Suk would earn after a year of hosting the Korean version of the show. The 38-year-old also holds many other titles to his name apart from being an actor. He is a director, host and investor to name a few. In 2013, Betty’s rank in the Forbes China Celebrity 100 List ascended very quickly, from 96th to 22nd placing, following her popularity after starring as the lead in the critically acclaimed historical drama, Empresses in the Palace.

She could earn an annual income of up to RMB 10 million (approximately S$2.4 million) simply by focusing on acting, which was more than half of her husband’s paycheck.

The 34-year-old actress also has shares in various film companies, with their market value being RMB 70 million (approximately S$14 million).

Huang Xiaoming, Angelababy

Estimated net worth: S$211 million

The next couple on this list are both A-listers in their own right, actors Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy.

A list of the 100 highest earning celebrities in China for 2016 was released this April and Huang Xiaoming came in the 6th place, with a personal income of RMB 168 million (approximately S$34.2 million). His wife, Angelababy ranked two spots behind him in 8th, with an income of RMB 147 million (approximately S$29.9 million)

They are also the only celebrity couple to have both made it into the top 10 of the list, totaling their earnings as a couple up to RMB 315 million (approximately S$64.3 million).

What makes it even more impressive is that these figures are based on their annual earnings from their acting careers in 2016 – without taking their personal investments and other profits into account.

Xiaoming has investments in golf courses and various hospitals, tallying his profits up to RMB 500 million (approximately S$102.1 million). Properties and cars under the 38-year-old actor’s name also come close to RMB 500 million (approximately S$102.4 million), and this fortune is what allowed him to remain in the list of the highest earning celebrities in China for the past 10 years as well as stay in the running for the most profitable actor the past seven consecutive years.

It was reported that Xiaoming had proposed to Angelababy with a US$1.5 million (approximately S$2.3 million) Joséphine Aigrette Impériale ring, designed by Parisian jeweler Chaumet which showcases a five-carat pear-shaped diamond surrounded by half a carat of brilliant-cut diamonds.

The couple turned heads at their elaborate US$31 million (approximately S$41.8) wedding in 2015 which was live broadcasted online. The ceremony boasted a holographic castle, and a ten-foot cake shaped like a carousel (which reportedly took a month to make). Each attendee also left the lavish event with a bagful of gifts, including a mobile phone.

As the saying goes, “behind every great man is a great woman” and Angelababy sure lives up to that title.

The actress’s popularity rose since 2014 after she starred in the hit Chinese variety show, Keep Running.

Since then, she has received many job opportunities, appearing in over 10 movies just last year which earned her an average payout of RMB 10 million (approximately S$2 million) per film.

The 28-year-old actress has also endorsed over 15 brands, with each advertisement paying an average of S$1.6 million. Her appearance on variety shows, television series and performances added up to a total revenue of RMB 265 million (approximately S$54.1 million) last year.

Angelababy is also an ardent entrepreneur, having already owned a nail salon and three cafés in Hong Kong under the name of ‘Baby Café’. She also established the venture capital fund ‘AB Capital’ in May 2015, whose first batch of investment projects included the e-commerce company Ymatou and fruit and vegetable juice brand HeyJuice.

Despite having to take a hiatus for maternity leave, the new mother signed with Adidas and Dior only weeks after giving birth to her son “Little Sponge” in January and later became TAG Heuer’s global ambassador in June.

Estimated net worth: S$429.3 million

In 2015, Taiwanese actors Cecilia Liu and Nicky Wu both made it into the top 30 of Forbes’ list of highest earning Chinese celebrities.

Nicky came in at 26th place, drawing an income of RMB 33 million (approximately S$6.7 million).

The 46-year-old actor, who had obtained his Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) master’s degree from Peking University in July, was reported to be heading to England for further studies once again.

He was said to have chalked up NT$4.1 million (approximately S$185,000) on school fees alone.

What might seem like a large sum to most of us might only be a few dollars to Nicky, who has accumulated personal assets of up to S$368 million.

Aside from being a phenomenal actor, Nicky is also a successful entrepreneur. In 2007, he was already the owner of seven Thai restaurants in China and Taiwan. He has also set up his own production company which is involved in animations, movies as well as television shows. The actor currently also owns a pet shop in Taiwan and a real estate company in Japan.

Nicky was also said to have proposed to Cecilia with a RMB 12 million (approximately S$2.4 million) diamond ring designed by De Beers.

Ceciliu Liu is also a force to be reckoned with. She is an impressive woman, already being the shareholder of six listed companies at the mere age of 30.

She ranked 30th, four spots behind her husband on the Forbes list, with an income of RMB 31.5 million (approximately S$6.4 million).

Prior to tying the knot with Nicky, she had already received the transfer of 60 percent of his company’s shares to her ownership, which is estimated to be valued at RMB 1.8 billion (approximately S$368.5 million). This move made her the majority shareholder in Nicky’s company.

However, the couple often remain low-profile, frugal and do not flaunt their wealth.

Their extravagant wedding in 2016 only cost the newlyweds NT$4.3 million (approximately S$180,000), far lower than the tens of millions first reported, as most items, such as the gowns and the wines were sponsored.
