Alyssa Chia will be making her much-awaited comeback to TV this year as she has confirmed she will be participating in upcoming series The Distance Between Us and Evil (working title). The last Taiwanese drama that she worked on was 2003’s Lady Wu: The First Empress in 2003, in which she played the lead character.

The scriptwriter is the award-winning Lu Shih Yuan, whose works, including drama Long Day’s Journey into Light, has won the TV Series Screenplay Award at the Golden Bell Awards. Her upcoming work will tell the story about the story about an “indiscriminate killer and his victim’s family”, which is a stark contrast to the numerous romcoms that Taiwan produce every year.

Alyssa has spent the majority of her career after 2003 on mainland productions, and her return to Taiwanese drama has many anticipating how much her acting chops have improved in the decade or so that she has been away.

The production team revealed that they extended a sincere invitation to Alyssa to star in their show, and she said yes after some thought. They went on to say that it was the script that was a deciding factor for her, and that she has been taking lessons in order to immerse herself in her role, and that filming will commence in mid-April.

The entire production period will last for an estimated two months, with the majority of the scenes being filmed in Taipei.

Alyssa’s manager gave a short response to the news, saying, “Everything is being planned right now, and we’re also looking forward to her new project.”
