On January 20, Taiwanese singer Annie Yi shared photos of herself shopping with 2-year-old daughter Milly (aka as Xiao Mi Li or Little Rice Grain), and received a rude comment from a netizen who said Milly “looks mentally impaired”.

This is not the first time unfavourable comments have surfaced where netizens took offence with the baby girl’s appearance, and like before, the 48-year-old mother had taken it upon herself to reprimand the rude netizen.

“What makes you think it is alright to say something so nasty to a small baby? Your rude comment makes me wonder how you were brought up as a person,” she shot back at the rude commenter. She added that “every baby was born equal” and “they are still wonderful, even if they were born with disabilities.”

“I hope your parents know you live your life while harbouring such ill intentions,” the singer wrote.

The netizen, whose name was left uncensored by Annie, later apologised online and claimed to be a fan, clarifying that the comment was left by someone who had hacked the account.

Annie has since accepted the apology in good grace, praising the netizen for having the courage to speak the truth and apologise for mistakes made.

“The internet needs to become a better place,” she wrote, “It would be great if people could make the effort to understand each other.”

Annie tied the knot with Chinese actor Qin Hao in March 2015, and gave birth to Milly in June the following year.
