The Hong Kong actor stunned the crowd when he appeared to be throwing shade at Jackie Chan during the Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony

Anthony Wong apologises to Jackie Chan over film controversy
Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong has stepped up to clarify that he was not taking a dig at fellow actor Jackie Chan during his recent commentary at the

Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony held last Sunday (Apr 15).

The 56-year-old actor wrote a long apology post to Jackie on Facebook, and berated the media for twisting his words.

The controversy first began when Anthony said that “there will still be Hong Kong movies made every year”, while presenting the award for best screenplay.

This comment was perceived to be an indirect way of throwing shade at Jackie’s previous comment during the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) he attended, when he said that only Chinese films remain because “Hong Kong films are also Chinese films”.

In his Facebook post, Anthony expressed that he is not someone who will “disrespect my seniors during a happy, yet serious ceremony like the Hong Kong Film Awards”, and revealed that his script was given the go-ahead by event managers before the show began.

He then addressed Jackie and wrote, “I did not intend to cause hurt and controversy with my words, but they were still taken out of context. I sincerely apologise for being disrespectful.”
