Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong is not only a respected actor in the industry, he is known for his no-holds-barred and no-nonsense personality and isn’t afraid of expressing his opinions publicly.
The 55 year-old actor was enraged again recently and ranted about it on his Facebook page yesterday (July 9). “What has this movie got to do with you? I didn’t know that you designed the character’s look? Did you draw the original comics?” he wrote.
Although Anthony did not name anyone in the post, he later replied a concerned fan and explained that famous Hong Kong director Wong Jing had “took someone else’s credit.”
According to Chinese media reports, the actor explained in a phone interview that he received a video exposing Wong Jing’s conversation with an unnamed person. In said conversation, Wong Jing had allegedly said that he was responsible for the look of Anthony’s look in 1998 period movie The Storm Raiders when in fact it was adapted from the original design of the comic, which was drawn by artist Ma Wing-shing.
Anthony also caught wind that Wong Jing had advised fellow directors not to cast him in productions as he had put on weight after consuming steroids as part of his medication for thyroid problems then.
This is an ongoing feud between Anthony and Wong Jing. The two locked horns four years ago when the director cut ties with Anthony for supporting the 2014 Hong Kong protesters in 2014. Wong Jing also ‘unfriended’ fellow Hong Kong celebrities Chapman To and Denise Ho for being supporters of the movement too.
