Bail restrictions eased for Gao Yunxiang and wife

Recently, Chinese actor Gao Yunxiang (also known as Gavin Gao) appeared in court in Sydney, Australia, where he is now detained after being accused of sexual assault, to request for his bail restrictions to be eased for his wife, Chinese actress Xuan Dong.

After being detained in jail in late March this year, the 36-year-old’s bail application was approved in June.

Though he was released from jail pending the court’s final verdict on the case, the actor still has to comply with a number of restrictions placed on him by the authorities. Other than reporting to the local police post twice daily, the actor has to wear an electronic anklet, which tracks his location. Xuan Dong, who temporarily relocated to Sydney, Australia together with the couple’s two-year-old daughter to guarantee that the actor will not jump bail, had her passport impounded by the authorities as well.

However, in a court hearing on Wednesday (October 10), the judge eased some restrictions on the couple, allowing Xuan Dong to get her passport back. The actress is now able to travel out of the country, with no need to stay in Australia.

An insider shared more details on the new restrictions, revealing that although the actress is now able to return to China to work, she is unable to take on long-term projects. It is said that Xuan Dong still needs to return to Sydney periodically to report her location to the authorities. This means that for now, the actress is only able to take on short projects in order to eke out a living to support herself.

As Yunxiang is unable to leave Sydney, the added distance means that the couple will now have a new hurdle in their relationship to jump over. In August this year, Xuan Dong was also seen attending an event in China without her wedding ring, sparking rumours that their marriage was on the rocks. As of press time, the actress has yet to respond to the rumours. She was also not seen with Yunxiang when he appeared in court on Wednesday as well.

Yunxiang was in Sydney filming a TV series called Love in Aranya when he and Chinese producer Wang Jing were accused of sexual assault against a female production crew member at the Shangri-La hotel after the wrap party.
