Actress Cecilia Liu is not messing around when it comes to prosecuting those who try to damage her reputation.
Yesterday (Oct 22), a court case in which Cecilia had sued a netizen for spreading rumours about her came to a conclusion.
According to reports, the netizen, who is identified only as “Mr. Zhou”, claimed online that Cecilia had cheated on her husband of four years, actor-singer Nicky Wu. The netizen even went on to allege that the couple’s six-month-old son, nicknamed “Bubu”, was the result of an extramarital affair Cecilia had.
In their ruling, the courts found that the netizen had indeed defamed Cecilia and sullied her reputation. As a result, the netizen will have to take out a 15-day advertisement on any nationally distributed newspaper, making a public apology to Cecilia.
Apart from that, he will have to make monetary restitution to Cecilia as well, to cover the fees she had incurred to file the lawsuit and compensate her for the psychological damage she had suffered. In total, the netizen will have to cough up RMB41,290 (approximately S$8,000).
