News of Ella Chen not renewing her contract with HIM International Music, the label she has been with for the past 17 years, emerged last month. Following the surprising reveal, speculation that she will not be present at the group’s anniversary concert circulated, but the singer has maintained her silence on the matter.
After almost a month of rumours, Ella finally spoke up about her future plans at an event. When she was first asked about her participation in future S.H.E group activities, she stated, “When the time is right, we will discuss this (with HIM)l, but we will not be sharing the content of our discussion with everyone.”
She continued, “I’m not afraid of being misunderstood because my bond with S.H.E is more than just a business relationship. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
The 37-year-old went on to point out that the members have been embarking on their solo endeavours since 2012 and do not promote together often. “Perhaps the reason why everyone is so panicked right now is because you’ve waited for a long time, but I want to say that there’s no need to worry about this,” Ella said. “As long as all three of us share the same heart (to continue on together as a group), S.H.E will not disband.”
Ella was also asked if Selina and Hebe will be joining Jinhua Entertainment, a company set up by her husband Alvin Lai, to which she responded with, “It depends if they’re interested. Management is something that we need to take seriously, because they need to know what you like and work towards the same goal with you. (My husband) doesn’t know them well enough.”
