Ever since she was found guilty for tax evasion, Chinese A-lister Fan Bingbing has been keeping off the radar, with some reports claiming that there is a blanket ban on her showbiz activities for the next three years.
However, recent hints have had many believing that the actress is readying up for her grand return. Among which, a recent interview that Marie Claire did with Penélope Cruz caught the attention of Chinese netizens. In particular, one excerpt from the article read, ‘Next, she’s preparing for the Cuban spy film Wasp Network, with director Olivier Assayas, and 355, an all-female spy thriller. Written by Theresa Rebeck, it co-stars Jessica Chastain (the film’s producer), (Marion) Cotillard, Lupita Nyong’o, and Fan Bingbing. They haven’t set a date for principal photography yet: “A few of us are moms,” Cruz explains, “so we’re trying to make sure it happens in the summer.”’
While Bingbing’s work studio has not commented about the interview, talk about the spy thriller has been ongoing since last year, when the actress’ casting was also confirmed. There has been no news of her pulling out of the project, which has some netizens believing that she might be focusing her career in Hollywood instead of China as there will be less roadblocks for her along the way.
Chinese eyewear brand, Prsr, which the 37-year-old has been a longtime ambassador of, also released new photos of the actress modeling their new line of sunglasses, which surprised netizens because of previous reports of her needing to put a stop to her work in the Mainland.
This, along with photos of Bingbing visiting her work studio multiple times in the past week, has many convinced that it’s only a matter of time before she makes a formal announcement about her return to showbiz.
