Hannah Quinlivan recently guested on an episode of Chinese variety show Crossing NBA with American basketball star Stephen Curry, where she revealed how she first met her husband, Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou.

According to the Taiwanese-Australian model-actress, the couple first crossed paths when she auditioned for the role of the female lead in an upcoming music video of Jay’s. She was only 17 back then.

Soon after, the pair started seeing each other, with their first date taking place at a basketball court.

“At that time, all I did was watch him play basketball, but now, I often play ball with him too,” the 26-year-old said with a laugh.

In order to protect Hannah and their budding relationship, Jay made the decision to cut out all the scenes featuring Hannah in the music video she originally auditioned for. As a result, Taiwanese actress Chloe Wu landed the female lead role in the music video for ‘How Are You’ instead.

In addition, Hannah shared her thoughts on becoming a mother at the age of 21 when she gave birth to the couple's first child, daughter Hathaway, in 2015. She admitted that she felt like she was still a child at heart herself, who harboured dreams of going out to play and party like her friends.

To make matters more difficult, she admitted that she had little to no knowledge of child care, which made motherhood very taxing on her at the start.

“When I met Jay, I was 17, and we tied the knot when I was 20. When I was 21, I had already given birth to my first child. To be honest, all these were not part of my life plan,” she revealed.

These days, however, Hannah is glad that she became a mum at such a young age because it allowed her to mature quicker compared to her peers. Motherhood also taught her to stop being selfish and to care for others as well.

Hannah and Jay tied the knot in 2015 and welcomed Hathaway the same year. Their son, Romeo, was born two years later, in 2017.
