HK stars mourn the death of veteran actresses Lily Leung and Teresa Ha

Hong Kong’s showbiz industry has been in mourning after two veteran actresses, Lily Leung and Teresa Ha (also known as Ha Ping) passed away. Lily passed away at the age of 90 on August 13, while Teresa passed away at the age of 81 on August 5. Both women passed on peacefully in their sleep.

Lily is widely regarded as a screen legend, and is fondly remembered for her role in 1995 drama A Kindred Spirit. She was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 at the TVB Anniversary Awards.

In a statement, TVB said Lily was surrounded by her loved ones during her final moments and that it would announce details of her funeral after they have been confirmed. She reportedly died from cancer in hospital.

Fellow Hong Kong stars have shared their memories of the late actresses on social media. Bernice Liu wrote, “Lily jie, a woman of grace on and off the screen, you always said the most encouraging things to me and made a point to never leave anyone out. You will be missed...”

Hacken Lee said, “This is the last photo that we took together. I’ll always remember your grace and elegance.”

Selena Lee posted a collage of photos of both Lily and Teresa and captioned it with, “I miss two industry seniors a lot, Lily jie and Apple jie. I remember working with Lily jie the first year I entered the industry. I was grateful for her patience towards a newbie like me. I worked with both seniors numerous times, and bumped into them in the makeup room so many times that I can’t count. Regardless if it was 6am, or 3am they never complained, and maintained their professionalism throughout. It’s a pity that we won’t be able to work together again in future, but both women will always remain in my heart. I’m grateful to have been able to meet them in showbiz. Rest in peace.”

Teresa’s godson confirmed that she had suffered from health issues since earlier this year. She suffered a few falls and had a stroke, among other ailments. Her funeral will be held on August 19.
