Earlier in September, Jackie Chan’s estranged daughter Etta Ng announced that she was engaged to Canadian influencer Andi Autumn. After the news emerged, Etta’s mother, Elaine Ng, shared that she is supportive of her marriage plans.
Earlier today (November 26), the couple announced on their respective social media platforms that they have officially tied the knot, posting a picture of themselves kissing with their marriage certificate held up in front of them.
On their shared Instagram page, they wrote, United by love & law. On our wedding day~ If you never give up on love and you put all your heart into the family youve dreamed of, an open mind and warm heart will guide you to happiness. (sic)”
“We have been in the persuit of happiness the day we were born. Abused as children who never felt love, we have so much to give. We have concorcured our fears, accepted our faults, and now we understand that the people who hurt us are hurting still. We have all been hurt but if you can dream of love, you can find it. Love is kind, it does not judge. Love is both strength and weakness. Love can make change. Love wins! (sic),” they concluded.
They also updated their personal pages with similar photos and captions, with Etta penning, “Home is where love is. Home is safety and I know too many that do not feel safe within the environment they were given but the new tide is rising. A home is with the family that you can choose and with that we are never alone. Love is undoubtedly stronger than blood.”
Elaine, who has been asked repeatedly about her comments about her daughter tying the knot, has tried to avoid the subject and would only say that getting married is a “good thing”. However, she shared that her daughter has since visited her back home in Hong Kong after her return, but that the couple have no plans to move in with her.
In September, Hong Kong announced that they will recognise same-sex partnerships in spousal visa applications. However, same-sex marriages are still not recognised in Hong Kong.
