Janet Hsieh felt like “the worst mother in the world”

Taiwanese-American host Janet Hsieh has once again provided more useful information from her research to new mothers after going through the painful process of her chest swelling.

Janet recently gave birth to her son, Egan, two months ago and is currently adjusting to life as a working mother. However, she said that what bothered her the most was not going back to work, but instead, Egan being unable to drink milk due to a blockage in her breasts.

She added that swelling of the chest was a common issue after birth but precautions should still be taken to ensure that it did not result in mastitis (inflammation of the mammary gland in the breast, typically due to bacterial infection via a damaged nipple).

To reduce the swelling, Janet found that the solution was for Egan to breastfeed directly but she said that because her glands were blocked, he could not reach the milk and began to cry.

“When I looked down and saw him crying, I started to blame myself and in that moment, I felt like the worst mother in the world,” she said.

However, the resilient mother did not give up and looked for more solutions to ease both the pain and her mind. She then shared her findings with her fans, which included - breastfeeding the baby from the most accessible area, changing his feeding position and most importantly, drinking more water.

The 37-year-old host and her husband, Singapore-based actor George Young, tied the knot in 2015 in an intimate wedding ceremony in Antarctica after going public with their relationship in 2014. She announced her pregnancy on April Fool's Day this year and subsequently gave birth to Egan on Oct 11.
