Li Chen voices support for Fan Bingbing
The actor broke his social media silence with a message of support for his fiancee
With the final verdict on Chinese actress Fan Bingbing’s drawn-out tax evasion scandal passed, it looks like things are slowly returning to normal.
Back when news of the scandal first broke, both Li Chen and Bingbing chose to keep a low profile online. It was later speculated that the engaged couple had called it quits, with Li Chen filming a promotional video without his ring on.
On Friday (October 5), the actor updated his Weibo with a simple message, writing, “Regardless of how tough (the future) may be, we’ll get through it together.” Though the 39-year-old did not mention any names in his post, but it is widely believed that the post is for Bingbing, showing his determination to stay with her, no matter what.
In other related news, an insider also revealed that the couple had planned to tie the knot in September this year, only for their plans to be thwarted by the tax evasion scandal. The insider added that Li Chen had placed a HK$50 million (approximately SG$8.82 million) deposit on a castle in England for their big day as well.
Bingbing was accused of evading taxes by signing ‘yin-yang contracts’ back in May. She subsequently disappeared from the spotlight for three months. In September, Chinese authorities revealed that the Chinese actress has been ordered to pay back RMB 255 million (S$51 million) in overdue taxes and will be fined RMB 479 million (S$95.84 million) for evading the said taxes.
