Miriam Yeung to retire next year?

Hong Kong actress-singer Miriam Yeung surprised many with her plans to retire next year during a guest appearance at Cantonese acapella group C AllStar’s concert.

Miriam made a special appearance at the quartet’s concert on Saturday (Oct 21), stealing the spotlight in a bright yellow long dress. When she co-sang ‘Last Song’ with the group, she seemed so engrossed in the moment that she almost missed one of her parts which thankfully, C AllStar managed to cover up and fill in in the nick of time.

After the heart-warming performance, the crowd were shocked when Miriam said that she “might be retiring from singing next year” and jokingly asked the quartet “not to only make their comeback after she had retired.” She also added that “life was unexpected and had different stages where many different events would happen” and encouraged the crowd to “cherish every moment, be it good or bad.”

After news of her planned retirement was made, many began speculating that she chose to leave the industry early so as to devote all her time and energy in looking after her 5-year-old son, Torres. The 41-year-old was said to have been very busy in recent days choosing a good primary school for him as she was recently witnessed attending talks conducted by various international schools with him.

Miriam has constantly emphasised on how she “hopes Torres would turn into a successful young man with a bright future” and had even previously talked about sending him abroad to study when he turned 15.

The singer wed her fellow singer husband Real Ting in 2009 and has been having a very busy schedule ever since, juggling both her and acting and singing career. Following the release of her latest album If Everybody Had An Ocean in 2015, she also played the female lead in the Hong Kong-Chinese romantic comedy, Love Off the Cuff, which premiered this April.
