Last week, the 7th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival was held, with Anita Mui biopic Dearest Anita bagging four awards in total.

The movie's plot revolves around the late actress. 10 years after the Cantopop diva passed away in 2003, her personal belongings were auctioned off. Items that were deemed unprofitable were discarded in the trash. Fans of the singer then proceeded to go through the trash to unearth the discarded belongings, many of which were letters or gifts given to Anita by fans. The fans then embarked on a journey to reunite these gifts with the people who originally gifted them to Anita.

Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu’s performance as Anita’s childhood friend, Amy in the film earned her a nomination for the Best Actress award at the 7th Vancouver Chinese Film Festival. She was eventually crowned the winner of the award.

Dearest Anita also won three other awards, including the Best Cantonese Film award. Hong Kong director Clifton Ko walked home with the Best Director award for his work on Dearest Anita, while Hong Kong actress Sonija Kwok won the People’s Choice award.

Myolie was unable to attend the festival in person, but prepared a speech beforehand, which Clifton read out on her behalf. In her speech, she thanked Clifton for giving her the role, as well as Anita, and her fanclub Mui Nation, who had set the ball rolling for the movie.
