Nicholas Tse is not just a good actor and singer,
he’s a great cook too. The Hong Kong singer-actor has been making a name for himself in the food industry thanks to his culinary travel show, Chef Nic, which led to the start of his bakery business in 2015 and the creation of his own cookie brand – Chef Nic’s cookies.

The cookies, which come in four flavours (butter, lemon, chocolate and chilli) that represent the taste of life are under scrutiny for its discrepancy in sugar level, according to media reports.

In a random check conducted by Hong Kong’s food safety authority, Centre for Food Safety (CFS), it detected 17.6g of sugar per 100g of cookies, which is five times the original amount stated on its nutrition label - 3g of sugar per 100g of cookies.

As each bag of cookies weighs 350g, 61.6g of sugar would be consumed in every bag of cookies, far exceeding the World Health Organization’s recommended sugar intake of 25g a day. However, based on the ingredient list in Chef Nic’s cookies, the food item has been classified as a low sugar product and the brand is under suspicion for cheating its consumers.CFS is currently investigating the case and has called for all related products to be pulled off the shelves; it is also considering prosecution if there’s sufficient evidence to press charges.Nicholas has stepped in to clarify that this is a solely based on a “random check” by the Centre for Food Safety and ensures that there are no problems with food safety. He also emphasised that the sugar levels in the cookies “do not exceed” its stated levels, unlike the reports made by CFS.Photos: PBE MediaRelated:
