Weapon charge against Sun Peng, Di Ying’s son dropped

Taiwanese actors Sun Peng and Di Ying have been pulling out all the stops for their son, Sun An Tso’s legal battle in the USA after the latter was charged with making terroristic threats and possessing instruments of crime.

With evidence such as a handgun, along with more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition, found in his possession, Taiwanese attorneys have also weighed in on the situation, with some saying that it would be “difficult” for the teenager to be acquitted.

An Tso’s court hearing was slated for yesterday (April 25), but his lawyers, criminal defense attorney Robert Keller, along with criminal lawyer Michael Kotik, have reportedly decided to skip the preliminary hearing and will go directly to trial.

His lawyers have reportedly entered a plea deal in which one of the charges against him will be dropped if An Tso waived his rights to the preliminary hearing.

This could also be their way of keeping the details of the case away from the eyes and ears of the media, who would be allowed to attend the hearing.

Earlier today, Taiwanese lawyer Chiu Chiang updated her Facebook with a post that read, “Sun An Tso is coming home soon”. In it, she shared that that the prosecutor will recommend that the judge allow the teenager to apply for the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition (ARD) in Pennsylvania after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Adding that this result is “very favourable” to An Tso, she shared that at the end of the ARD, An Tso will not have a criminal record and will be able to return home.
