Andy Lau’s otherwise perfect show in Singapore marred by unruly crowd

<p>Last night, Andy Lau reminded his Singapore fans why his title of Heavenly King is well deserved.<br /></p>
<p>Even before entering the stadium, you could feel a sense of excitement in the air, as fans who have yet to catch his previous shows in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur didn’t quite know what to expect. The four-sided stage that only the best of performers dare to use for their concerts was also a big talking point - <a target="_blank" href="https://entertainment.toggle.sg/en/entertainment/asianbuzz/photos/jacky… Heavenly King Jacky Cheung also had one</a> during his world tour last year.<br /></p>
<p>When the show began, it was apparent that Andy would be making use of every single inch of his stage, which transformed into different sets as the night went by.<br /></p>
<p>The 57-year-old also teared up on a number of occasions, especially when thanking his fans for standing by his side throughout his 38 years in showbiz. “I hope that when you walk past an 80-year-old me in the future on the streets, that you’ll come up to me, give me a hug and tell me that I’m very handsome,” he quipped as he tried to lighten the mood.<br /></p>
<p>Even those seated on the balcony seats were also treated to a close view of Andy when he slowly glided past on a zip line for 10 minutes of the show. Other ‘wow’-worthy effects were the confetti cannons that went off like machine-guns around the stage (it looks a lot more impressive than it looks), along with the huge traditional drum that rose like a centrepiece on the stage, and was used in a performance of ‘Zhong Guo Ren’.<br /></p>
<p>The set-list was also a good mix of fast-paced tracks and sing-along ballads. Crowd favourites ‘Ben Xiao Hai’, ’17’ and ‘Nan Ren Ku Ba Bu Shi Zui’ elicited the loudest cheers from the 10,000-strong audience, so much to the point where Andy quipped, “It’s like you’re asking for my life in exchange for what you paid for the concert tickets!”</p>
