Angelica Lee: Sylvia Chang’s back is prettier than mine

Sylvia Chang and Angelica Lee attended the press conference and premiere of their new film The Garden of Evening Mists in Taipei yesterday (Nov 25). The actresses play the older and younger versions of the film’s protagonist respectively.

Angelica shared that when she found out about her intimate scenes with Japanese actor Hiroshi Abe in the film, she called Sylvia to ask for advice. “I always turn to Sylvia whenever I feel helpless,” the 43-year-old Malaysian actress explained. “When I asked her about this scene, she told me, ‘You’re an actor. It’s only natural to show your body on screen. You have to expose whatever needs to be exposed!’”

Fortunately, Angelica revealed that director Tom Lin was very respectful and protective of her modesty during the shoot. When she heard this, Sylvia jokingly complained about Tom not showing her the same treatment. “He never protected me! So much of my back was exposed! Fortunately, I have a very slim waist,” said the 66-year-old Taiwanese singer-actress with a laugh.

Her younger co-star immediately piped up in agreement, “Sylvia’s back is prettier than mine. She has beautiful skin and such a slim waist!”

Despite her initial worries about her love scenes, Angelica said that she is happy to be able to make such a romantic film even after having children, to which Sylvia quipped, “And what’s more, you got to do it with Hiroshi Abe!”
