Celeb tributes to Chu Keliang pour in following his death

Taiwanese entertainer Chu Keliang has died after a three-year battle with cancer. He was warded at the National Taiwan University Hospital, where he passed away peacefully in his sleep at 5.08am today.

The 70-year-old was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2014, and his health was reported to have taken a turn for the worse earlier this month as the cancer cells spread to other parts of his body, including his liver, which caused his body to lose its ability to remove toxins from itself.

His cause of death is reported to have been complications due to liver failure, along with multiple organ failure after the cancer cells further spread to his abdominal cavity and lungs. Doctors had warned his family a few days ago that his liver was functioning at only 20 percent and that he would only have one to two weeks left to live.

His manager has shared that the family confirmed the death and issued a statement at about 8.30am, saying that Keliang left the world peacefully. According to reports, his body has been moved from the hospital at around 7am, and that his children will be handling his wake and funeral.

His youngest daughter, Hsieh Jinjin was unable to see Keliang for the last time despite her best efforts to rush to his bedside after returning from her concert in Indonesia.

Dear friends who loved Chu Keliang, we’re thankful to the support and affirmation that you’ve given him from the day that he returned to the limelight. You let him dedicate himself to his job and bring everyone much joy and laughter.

Even though we’re very sad to have to tell you this piece of news, the Chu Keliang that everyone loves has left us just past 5am today while he was at the National Taiwan University Hospital. He left peacefully and the sickness that plagued him will never make him suffer again.

While he was unwell, we’re truly thankful to everyone who has given him your unwavering support. He decided to leave this stage as he’s really tired (from fighting this battle).

We also hope that the friends who love him can give him your most sincere blessings; blessings that he’ll be able to spread laughter and joy even from the skies. Furthermore, we hope that everyone can remember this king of entertainers – Chu Keliang.

My father left this world peacefully while in his sleep and is now headed to a world of bliss. Our family is by his side – my older brother, sister and I dressed him up in dashing clothes. He no longer has any more sickness nor pain and there’s nothing stopping him from going to another place to perform for everyone once again.

I hope that everyone can dedicate kind, good words to him so that he can cross over to the other world well – to a place where he will no longer suffer and will be able to enjoy the best parts of life.

During the course of his sickness, my father told me that participating in the New York Hua Lian Tsu Hui Temple’s event was a very big blessing. With my dad’s blessings, I will find my greatest strength to complete the show!

Yu Tien’s last text message to Chu Keliang

Taiwanese singer Yu Tien had a five-year feud with Keliang, which was finally resolved recently.

His last text message to Keliang was revealed to have read, “Ah Liang, how are you feeling? I’m really worried about you… I hope that all is good. Are you able to talk on the phone? Is it convenient for me to pay you a visit? I’ll pray for you!”

Unfortunately, Keliang was ultimately unable to respond to the message. Yu Tien was asked about Keliang’s passing by the media and he shared, “I was woken up by the media’s calls early in the morning. I can’t bear to see him go. I’ve let go of our feud a long time ago and I’ve been meaning to see him ever since I heard that he fell ill. It’s sad that I didn’t manage to see him before he passed away. May he rest in peace.”

Goodbye! Looking back, it was all like a dream. We were vying for the Golden Bell Award four years ago – even though neither of us won it in the end, but it was a joy and honour to have been competitors.

Thank you for your selfless dedication to your performance. You showed what it means to have the spirit of entertainment in you.

Back then, Chang Hsiao-yen happily shared that you praised me in front of her. I was really flattered after I heard about that, and it’s a pity that I never got to thank you in person for that compliment.

Now, you’ll no longer have to deal with sickness, pain or any worries; we’ll always cherish the master of variety, Chu Keliang.

I was once lucky enough to act alongside Chu da ge as his daughter in the movie New Perfect Two. Because of that, I also went on to his talk show to promote the movie. Da ge’s respect towards his work, his candor and enthusiasm, are all good examples for us, the second generation to follow. His creativity when it comes to performing, ingenuity, and style, is something that can never be replaced by anyone. In my heart, I really couldn’t bear… couldn’t bear to [see] da ge continue filming till the very end, and leave us with the best memories, even when his body was so weak. You’ve worked hard.

The eternal world star, Chu Keliang da ge, whom I love and respect, rest in peace. You will forever be in our hearts.

Truth be told, I heard of the news regarding Chu da ge at six in the morning. At that moment, I felt strangely light, and heavy at the same time. Light, because I felt that Chu da ge can finally rest well now, and heavy because we had just lost a teacher who fervently loved performing… Chu da ge is a senior who threw himself wholeheartedly into the entertainment industry. [With] His outstanding skill, his concern. If you stand beside him, you’d be able to feel the fiery passion of his, which he possessed until the very end.

Chu da ge’s many achievements, and the number of classics that he has worked on is not important. What’s most important, is how he lived his life. Towards his religion, towards his family, towards his performance, towards all his colleagues, he always gave his all, wholeheartedly.

That’s Chu da ge’s style, and it’s because of his wholeheartedness, that he has managed to create a string of unforgettable stories… Thank you god for letting me meet Chu da ge, the world is always changing, the road ahead for the youngsters is long, but if I had never personally witnessed a brilliant and vivid life like this, I might still be caught up, confused, in the demands of society.

Regardless, Chu da ge, rest in peace, and rest well, because you’ve really, worked hard. We love you.
