Hear them say: We’re in love!

How they went public: “Why do folks always post photos of (them) holding hands when they announce that they’re in a relationship?” Peter wrote. “Fine, I’ll do the same.” He declared on his Weibo on Dec 16.

Reminiscent of the wildly popular Follow Me To series, popularised by Murad Osmann and Natalia Zakharova, the pair confirmed the open secret as the two have been linked together as far back as eight years ago.

Creativity: 3/10. Though this sort of announcement isn’t anything new – we see such pictures popping up on Instagram all the time, we’ll give him points for effort and the fact that pictures of both Peter and Peggy in the foreground were taken.

Hear them say: We’re in love!

How they went public: Surprising many with the announcement, the Heavenly King revealed through a Weibo post that he is dating Shanghainese model Moka Fang and included a picture of their clasped hands.

Aaron, who is well-known for being low-profile in his relationships, mused that he hopes to “try a new way of living” and “receive the public’s blessings and understanding” in his new relationship.

Despite the large age gap – he is 50, while she is 27 – the two seem to be getting along well and were even spotted hitting a nightclub in Shanghai with her model friends.

Creativity: 3/10. That picture could’ve been uploaded by anyone else and we wouldn’t know the difference, but points go to this Heavenly King for his bravery and willingness to go public so soon after they started dating.

Hear them say: We’re getting married!

How they went public: Rumours first circulated about the pair getting married, which were quickly shot down by Rain’s agency. In a direct counter-statement to that, Rain uploaded a handwritten letter on his Instagram which read, “I am striving to become the head of a household as a husband and a man. She was always there for me during both my hardest and happiest times and has moved me on multiple levels. Our trust has been growing and our love has finally borne fruit.”

The winning part of the letter, however, was the last line, “She is my best present.” His recent comeback track, titled ‘The Best Present’, was speculated to have been a proposal song as many felt it was an odd choice for a title song as the star is well-known for his fast-paced dance hits instead of slower songs.

Creativity: 10/10. Not only did we find it great of him to have gone ahead to post the confirmation of the good news on his own, the fact that his comeback track is quite possibly his way of telling his fiancée that she’s the greatest gift he’s ever received is nothing short of K-drama-worthy.

Hear them say: We got married!

How they went public: Chinese actor Dai Xiang Yu surprised many with his sudden Weibo post on May 19. His post, with the simple caption, “I hope that our future will consist of only laughter”, caught the attention of many because of the snap of their marriage certificate and engagement ring that was attached.

There were also eight other photos of the couple looking very much in love in a clown-themed photoshoot, and well-wishes for the couple poured in following their announcement.

Creativity: 5/10. Although the clown outfits were nothing short of cheery, we can’t help but think of the creepy clown craze that swept the world months later.

Hear them say: We got married!

How they went public: This couple is just full of surprises. Back in August this year, Vic has declared that there’s no deadline for marriage but surprised fans with his announcement that he and his actress girlfriend had tied the knot in November.

Showing off their rings in what looks like a marriage registration office, he wrote, “Mrs. Chou is really beautiful. Yes, we’re married. Thanks to all our friends for your well-wishes.”

Creativity: 5/10. While their photo wasn’t unique, seeing the pair beaming right after becoming man and wife, along with Vic’s sweet declaration, gave him automatic brownie points in our books.

How they went public: In November 2014, Mayday’s Masa confirmed that he had wed his designer girlfriend Vicky Xie after rumours of him tying the knot surfaced when he was spotted with a band on his ring finger at a public event.

In his Facebook post, he attached a photo of their matching tattoos on their ring fingers together with the caption, “I hope we walk hand in hand towards the next stage in life. No matter what, I know we will never let go of each other’s hands.”

Creativity: 7/10. Who needs rings when you have your love tattooed on your ring finger? Not this couple.

How they went public: Having been in a relationship for five years, many wondered when the two would tie the knot – and they finally did, in what was dubbed the wedding of the century.

Even their wedding paraphernalia seemed to have a lot of thought put into them, with a note in each wedding favour box sharing that the cookies were made by those with physical disabilities.

Their wedding announcement, however, was bland in comparison – a plain photo of their marriage certificates.

Creativity: 1/10. With all the effort put into everything else, we might have set the bar a little too high for this couple.

How they went public: The reel-to-real life couple fell in love after working together on hit drama Scarlet Heart, went public with their relationship in 2013 and registered their wedding in January this year. They made the announcement through their personal Weibo accounts, with Nicky musing, “Cherish happiness” whereas Cecilia shared the post and added, “We’re very happy”.

While the busy duo have been officially married for over a year, Nicky only went down on bended knee in June and the wedding is said to be scheduled for March next year. Cecilia shared with members of the media that she has “no opinion” on the exact date of the wedding nor the candidates for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, declaring that she is waiting to be “surprised” by her husband.

Creativity: 2/10. We’re not biased – the reason why we gave an extra point to this couple is that they included their rings in their snap.

Hear them say: We’ve got a baby on the way!

How they went public: In May this year, Taiwanese actor Xiu Jie Kai posted a heartwarming family photo with then-girlfriend Alyssa and her daughter from her previous marriage, Angelina, he thanked his “little angel” (Angelina) for being by their side to welcome another little angel into the family.

Alyssa’s sign, which was held over her growing belly on behalf of her unborn child reads, “I am…?” while Angelina’s, “I’m an older sister!” The then-family of three’s matching outfits made it all the cuter – and we had to suppress a squeal when we saw the second shot of Angelina kissing her mom’s baby bump.

The couple later updated fans when their daughter, nicknamed Bu Bu, was born and celebrated her second month with friends and family in October.

Creativity: 8/10. Matching outfits? Check. Cute signs that say it all? Double check.

Hear them say: We’ve got twins on the way!

How they went public: Jimmy Lin and Kelly Chen confirmed that they would be adding two more to their brood – which originally consisted of 6-year-old Kimi – in one of the cutest ways ever.

He uploaded a picture of Kimi kissing his mom’s tummy, which many assumed meant that they had one more baby on the way, but were quickly proven wrong with the simple math equation that he added to the photo.

The fraternal twin boys were delivered via Caesarean section earlier this month and are named Jenson and Kyson.

Creativity: 7/10. While similar to other baby announcements, they won us over with their unique way of declaring that they had twins on the way.

Hear them say: We’ve got a baby on the way!

How they went public: After five years of marriage, the Project Superstar alumni are expecting their first baby. Announcing the good news on their respective Instagram pages in October, Junyang was seen pointing to Candyce’s baby bump and was captioned, “We’re expecting a new addition in 2016; Tuffy (their golden retriever) is going to be a big brother!” Their baby is expected to be born in April.

Creativity: 2/10. While not the most creative, we’re glad that the couple will finally see their brood expand by next year!

Hear them say: It’s a girl!

How they went public: After much speculation about having given birth, Linda Chung updated her social media accounts with a picture of her slumbering daughter with the caption, “Hello! Daddy and mummy said that everyone has been really concerned about me and I can finally say hello to everyone! My name is Kelly, or you can call me by my nickname ‘Guai Guai’ (well-behaved), because mommy and daddy said that I’m really well-behaved (…) I hope everyone can welcome me to the world! Plus, give me some growing up privacy. (sic) Thank you!”

Creativity: 1/10. While this announcement wasn’t the most exciting, we loved how Linda asked for privacy for her newborn baby along with confirming the rumours that she had given birth.

Hear them say: It’s a boy!

How they went public: Angelababy gave birth in Hong Kong and announced the good news through Huang Xiaoming’s work studio’s Weibo. The proud daddy later updated his Weibo with this adorable photo of him fist-bumping his little one with the caption, “The little sponge has arrived! Both mother and son are well.” We’re expecting a lot of bro-moments from this father-son pair in the future.

Creativity: 6/10. While we’re slightly disappointed that we haven’t gotten a glimpse of the new addition to their family, this snap of the father-son’s first fist-bump has got to be the cutest thing we’ve seen all month, hands down.

Hear them say: It’s a boy!

How they went public: After being hush-hush about her pregnancy – Michelle would not talk about how far along she was, nor divulge any information about her bun in the oven – we were pleasantly surprised that she updated her Weibo account with a ‘family portrait’ shortly after her son’s birth. The photo, while not showing very much of her bundle of joy, was a confirmation of earlier speculation that she had delivered her firstborn as she was spotted in the hospital prior to her update.

Creativity: 2/10. We’re sure that years in showbiz has honed celebs, such as Michelle’s, ability to divulge everything yet give away nothing at the same time, but props to the proud mummy for sharing her joy with her fans!

Hear them say: We got married!

How they went public: Uhh… Actually, they weren’t the ones to go public with their wedding. Celebrity stylist David Gan uploaded a picture on his personal Instagram which got all of our little red dot’s attention: Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh tied the knot in secret.

That level of secrecy took us all off guard and it’s been over a year since the two said ‘I do’ in front of the Merlion. They’ve even added to the brood with baby Qi, with the possibility of baby number two next year.
