After sharing that she and her older sister, Hsieh Qingyan will not be attending their father, Taiwanese entertainer Chu Keliang’s official funeral, which was scheduled to be held on June 20, Taiwanese singer Jeannie Hsieh did an about-turn, and showed up bright and early on the day of the funeral to pay her final respects to her father.

Jeannie, who had a strained relationship with her father, and had only recently made up with the entertainer on his deathbed, made sure to observe and participate in all the traditional rites at the funeral, with a representative sharing, “During the rite where the family members lay the deceased’s body into the coffin, Hsieh Qinyan and Jeannie Hsieh were very emotional, and cried.”

The representative also shed some light on the sisters’ decision to attend their father’s funeral, saying, “Because they’re both magnanimous people. They should be able to calculate and know that deep down, what they should really do [with regards] to see their father for one last time.”

The producer and main leads of the movie, David Loman, which Keliang starred in, Chiu Li-Kwan, as well as Taiwanese singer-actress Amber Kuo and Taiwanese actor Tony Yang turned up at the funeral as well, with Amber falling to the ground and sobbing at one point.

The entire affair, which was organised to be a “joyful affair” celebrating the entertainer’s contributions to the entertainment industry, is reported to have cost around NT$8 million (approximately S$360,000).

Keliang was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2014, and his health was reported to have taken a turn for the worse earlier this month as the cancer cells spread to other parts of his body, including his liver, which caused his body to lose its ability to remove toxins from itself. His cause of death is reported to have been complications due to liver failure, along with multiple organ failure after the cancer cells further spread to his abdominal cavity and lungs.

He passed away peacefully in his sleep on 15 May this year.
