Taiwanese actor and singer Nicky Wu, 45, wed Chinese actress Cecilia Liu, 29, yesterday in Bali, after months of speculation on the date and location of their ‘wedding of the century.’
The weekend celebration started on Saturday night with a welcome party, featuring traditional Balinese dancers and local cuisine. Celebs attending the event included Taiwan’s Alec Su and Matilda Tao and Hong Kong’s Damian Lau.
The wedding proper began yesterday morning when the groom went to pick up the bride. In the evening, all the bridesmaids and groomsmen entered the wedding venue, followed by Nicky and then Cecilia, on her father’s arm.
Damian officiated the wedding, and when it was Nicky’s turn to read his vows, he said, “So many different things have happened … I’d been unhappy that fate dealt me a bad hand.” After a 3-second pause to choke back tears, he went on: “I kept telling the heavens, you’ve not been good to me, you’ve made me go through so many challenges and so much unhappiness.”
“But now I know the heavens did save the best for me.” And Nicky turned to Cecilia and gave her a hug. “I will be obedient to you,” he said, to the laughter of the wedding guests.

After the wedding, the couple changed into evening wear for their dinner party; he wore a white suit and she a red cheongsam.
The newlyweds offered a champagne toast to each other. On the encouragement of the wedding host, Nicky and Cecilia shared a quick kiss, after which she reached out to wipe the lipstick stain off of him.
Asked how many children they planned to have, Nicky said without hesitation: “Five!” To which his Scarlet Heart co-star Yuan Hong said, “Then Nicky will have to fight on until daybreak!”
The five-course wedding dinner included grilled Wagyu beef and steamed grouper and two types of desserts.
Another highlight of the Nicky–Cecilia wedding was the long-awaited reunion of 90s Taiwanese boyband Little Tigers and their mentor, Taiwanese host and actress Chang Hsiao-yen, who propelled the trio (comprising Nicky, Alec and Julian Chen) to fame.
It had been 28 years since the four were last together. During the wedding, Hsiao-yen said, “Thanks to Cecilia for marrying Nicky and giving me this chance to reunite with the Little Tigers.”
Nicky and Cecilia registered their marriage in Beijing in January 2015. They met while working on the Chinese fantasy period drama Scarlet Heart.
