Eason Chan attended a press conference to promote a tennis programme in Hong Kong last Tuesday (Aug 6), where he played a few matches with children.

The 45-year-old singer is known to be an avid fan of the sport, and credits it for improving his horrible attitude when he was younger.

“When I was a child, I had a very bad temper, probably because I was spoiled rotten,” he admitted. “It was my mum who got me to do more sports because according to her, once you’ve finished playing, you would have no energy left to throw a tantrum.”

It also helped that he could never bring himself to throw his racket even when he was very frustrated, which is common behaviour among professional players on the court. “I bought my racket with my own money, and I don’t advocate throwing it because you could hurt yourself, so playing sports is really a good way to discipline yourself and control your temper,” he said, adding that it’s also a good form of emotional release.

Eason then used his tennis idol, Roger Federer, as an example. “He used to have such a bad temper when he was younger, but now he is so cool and confident - everybody is his fan.”
