Top 5 scandalous Asian celebrity splits in 2019
It’s the start of a brand new year, which also signifies fresh beginnings for all.
Some celebs in particular would be more inclined to put the past behind them, especially after their respective high-profile splits in 2019. For one, Jacqueline Wong and Kenneth Ma broke up after the former was caught making out with Andy Hui (whom, by the way, is married to Sammi Cheng).
Fan Bingbing and Li Chen calling off their engagement has been branded as a marketing ploy by netizens, while there is still much that is unknown about Fish Leong and her businessman husband Tony Chao’s divorce.
Over in South Korea, Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki’s divorce amidst rumours that both parties were cheating on each other has, along with Goo Hye Sun and Ahn Jae Hyun’s very public mud-slinging (she went as far to allege that he said that he “had to divorce me because my nipples are unsexy”) collectively raised eyebrows all around the world.
Read on for the top 5 scandalous celeb splits in 2019.

Jacqueline Wong, Kenneth Ma
Last April, a video taken from a dashboard camera leaked onto the internet, with reports declaring that the couple making out in a backseat was Hong Kong singer Andy Hui and actress Jacqueline Wong.
Adults getting frisky isn’t worth a scandal, but what made the public condemn their actions was that both parties involved were in committed relationships. Andy was married to singer Sammi Cheng, while Jacqueline was dating fellow actor Kenneth Ma.
The backlash from the scandal saw Andy holding a press conference to apologise for his misdeeds, while Jacqueline flew to the United States to escape the scrutiny.
It was only months later that Kenneth confirmed that he had broken up with the actress, but he has maintained that he wishes her only the best. Talk about a nice guy.
Meanwhile, Jacqueline is still bearing the brunt of the public’s anger, and her return to Hong Kong has netizens questioning her intentions.

Song Hye Kyo, Song Joong Ki
The most shocking divorce of 2019 is likely Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki’s, who were previously affectionately dubbed the Song-Song couple. Just a month before the announcement, the Korean actor called his wife his “biggest cheerleader” while filming his drama, Arthdal Chronicles.
The picture-perfect couple met on the set of the hit drama Descendants of the Sun, went public with their relationship in July 2017, and tied the knot three months later.
As both A-listers have not commented on the reason behind their divorce, speculation is rife about possible cheating on both sides.
There was much curiosity about how the pair, who is reported to own S$116.7million worth of combined assets, would be splitting their properties after the divorce. It was only after the divorce was finalised in July that Song Hye Kyo's agency shared that there will be no alimony nor splitting of assets involved.
As for why they split, guess we'll never know as the stars, who are believed to have signed a non-disclosure agreement, are likely to never discuss the topic.

Fan Bingbing, Li Chen
Despite breaking up, they claimed that they will continue to be there for each other as friends, and that they would always remain as confidants.
That seemed all well and dandy, except netizens aren’t quite convinced that their love story has ended. There have been numerous viral posts on Weibo alleging that the breakup is nothing more than an elaborate marketing ploy to help Fan Bingbing gain brownie points in the eyes of the public.
They claim that the actress, whose popularity had suffered after getting caught for tax evasion, is doing all she can to gain sympathy from the public with the breakup, and support from women by portraying the image of a strong, independent woman.
Plus, rumours of Bingbing having a bun in the oven started circulating even after the breakup, with some believing that the maybe baby could be Bingbing and Li Chen’s love child.

Goo Hye Sun, Ahn Jae Hyun
These South Korean actors had many going ‘Oh dear’ with the sordid details of their split, which were largely revealed by Goo Hye Sun in August.
She claimed that her ex-husband made “frequent and intimate calls” to other women while drunk, and that he “had to divorce me because my nipples are unsexy”. Definitely not the stuff that you would expect to read about a couple’s relationship.
Goo Hye Sun also claimed that Ahn Jae Hyun was having an affair with another actress, which prompted his co-stars to take legal action against speculations that they had destroyed their marriage.
Just last month, Goo Hye Sun did a tell-all interview with a Korean media outlet, sharing that she felt that Ahn Jae Hyun wanted a divorce was because “his heart left me” and called the journey from marriage to divorce a “nightmare”.
Ahn Jae Hyun has largely remained silent on the split, and has only issued brief statements through his management and legal advisors.

Fish Leong, Tony Chao
After nine years of marriage, Malaysian singer Fish Leong confirmed that she has divorced Malaysian businessman Tony Chao.
This came after months of speculation that her marriage was on the rocks, as she hinted via her social media accounts that not all was well. Fish’s divorce was also reported to have affected her friendship with Taiwanese singer Christine Fan, as the latter revealed details of Fish’s marriage when Fish herself was remaining silent on the matter.
It was only after that Fish stood up for her that people stopped criticising Christine, and an industry insider let on that Christine was trying to help Fish by bringing up the topic as Fish’s ex-husband stopped her from talking about the divorce.
Last month, Tony broke his silence and maintained that a divorce was “not the ending I wanted” and denied allegations that he cheated on her. This was despite claims that there is a third party involved after he was spotted with a mystery woman before the divorce was announced.
Fish and Tony have a 5-year-old son, Anderson, together, whom they share joint custody of.
