Alex Fong and Stephy Tang, one of the Hong Kong’s most adored celebrity couples, have called it quits after 10 years of dating. The duo announced yesterday through their managing companies that they have parted ways on “amicable” terms and clarified that no third parties are involved in their split.

Ironically, one year ago, the couple paired up in a movie called ‘Anniversary’ and played lovers of 10 years.

During a celebration party in January, the pair looked as loving as ever, with Alex, 36, giving Stephy a present and requesting to kiss her before everyone, bringing the 32-year-old to tears.

In their official statements released to the media, their respective managements commented on the surprise parting, saying, “The decision was made after careful consideration, breaking up is the best option. The couple thank each other for the care and support over the past ten years. In work, the two are still good partners and [they are still] good friends.”

Stephy took to Weibo later to elaborate on the decision. She reiterated that there was no third party involved and although they have been “walking towards the same direction” for the past 10 years, their pace grew different over time.

“A greater form of love is to let go, to let the other party find someone better”, wrote Stephy, who added that there was “no need for regret or feel remorse for making this important decision”.

Stephy also defended Alex, describing him as the “best man” and apologised to everyone who had been supporting them and their love from the start, and hoped for everyone to not lose faith in love.

Alex released his statement through WeChat, saying, “Thank you for your concern, I will not be replying for now and I hope for your understanding.”
