Beating four Taiwanese actors including hot-favourite Blue Lan (Lan Cheng-lung), MediaCorp actor Christopher Lee bagged his first Best Actor award at the 49th Golden Bell Awards held in Taiwan last Saturday.
His role in Taiwanese idol drama A Good Wife earned him the coveted award, which he revealed is his first award outside of Singapore. A thankful Christopher shared in his acceptance speech, “The script was good and the role was tough. I looked calm on camera but I was very nervous deep down.”
The 43-year-old, who became father to baby Zed on National Day (Aug 9) went on to thank his wife, Fann Wong “for giving birth to such a cute baby”. This was Christopher’s second nomination after his first nomination 2012 film produced by and co-starring Ruby Lin, Forgotten.
While many local actors congratulated the Ah Ge on his win through social media platforms, Fann did not forget to do so as well. She uploaded a photo of their son and wrote: “You are the man of my life. Bring the trophy back quickly for zedzed (sic)!”
In the other award categories, Chung Hsin-Ling won the Best Actress award with her role in drama Sun After The Rain while Sam Tseng won the Best Variety Show Host award with Genius Go Go Go.
After tying the knot in 2010 and giving birth to her baby girl a year later, Hsin-Ling first apologised for becoming a mum before going on to thank her mentor Hugh Lee (Lee Kuo-Hsiu) for “teaching me the beauty of performing”.
Crying tears of joy, Hsin-Ling added, “I am a comedian, I can act, thank you for watching television (programmes)!”
S.H.E member Selina Jen, who has returned to showbiz after her injury from an on-set explosion in 2010, hosted the ceremony with Sam Tseng. The singer revealed she had suffered from insomnia due to the pressure she felt having to host the big-scale event but her husband helped in calming her down.
Other artistes who attended include Vic Chou, Joseph Chang, Joe Chen and Amber Kuo.
